Serious question about dynamite for swimming hole

I've always heard about people using dynamite to open up a deep hole in a creek. Is this legal? Safe? Ethical? And...does it really work?

If there was ever a time for an OB gettogether...

People you've heard that from are probably full of shite. I would think a backhoe would be the answer.
If you do it, I'd think you need a shite ton of dynamite. And think about a creek..sand and gravel...you essentially be sending shrapnel in 360 degrees hauling arse...you better have the appointed Yosemite sam a ways off

even if it did work it would just fill back in with sand pretty quickly
deep holes in the creek are determined by the flow of the river more than anything else

Will only work if you bury the dynamite underneath the creek bed.
Just dropping the dynamite in the creek won't accomplish much
A backhoe would be much more efficient

Ummmmm, is it easily accessible to get your hands on some dynamite???? I call BS on anyone ever actually doing this.

Who was the OB'er who posted a couple of YouTube clips of blowing up beaver dams? It was about a month or two ago. The explosions, as well as the subsequent hail storm of debris, were very impressive.

Backhoe is safer,,
But not as fun of course!

Drop a tree across the creek, has to be low enough to touch bottom and make water flow over, and wait a week or so.

But much less fun. And very few good stories start off "one time when I was on a backhoe..."
"one time when I was screwing around with dynamite" on the other hand....

I think it was High Cotton if I'm not mistaken.

I would buy a ticket to watch.

No, it would not work unless you buried it as deep as you wanted the swimming hole to be which would kinda defeat the purpose, or used a LOT of dynamite.
