quote:They now make multiple lines. I got a free complete suit free with my last boat. So impressed with it I put all my other stuff up.
I've heard the frogg-toggs aren't very durable.

I've got a set of Huk Leviathan and Frogg Togg Pilot Pro series bibs/jacket. I was able to pickup both on sale at Amazon cheap (~$200 for set of bibs/jacket). Both are very waterproof/windproof and durable, but they do get hot in summer. Overall have been happy with both of them.
I was just looking at Frogg Togg FTX Armor series and am intrigued as they appear to be a lighter weight suit with good ratings on waterproof and breathability. Depending on size/color, you can pick a set (bibs/jacket) of those up for around $250 on Amazon now. I may get a set of these to pack for summer and give them a try.
The paper Frogg Toggs aren't worth wasting your time. You'll be drier without anything on. Same for most of the super lightweight suits I've tried.

Carhartt. It's bulky but since your crappie fishing it shouldn't be too bad. It will keep you dry.

I’m a big fan of the grundens. I’ve had goretex leak but that pvc grunden rain suit is rock solid and bone dry. The heavy duty set will last a lifetime, my medium duty set is about 20 years old and still going strong. Rule #1 when fishing for me is: always bring your rain gear!

I was looking at the light weight Grundens while in Superior Tackle today. Should have bought a pair. I have the heavy ones, while dry, they are hot AF in summer.
Goretex will leak if not taken care of, Grundens will hold up until you punch hole in them.

Anyone with gortex that isn’t water tight go listen to speckled truth podcast with Curtis Graves from Grundens and he explains how to properly care and wash gortex. Pretty interesting and helpful.

800 bucks frick that shite!!!!
Just get a frog tog suit at Walmart and throw it away after a time or two. 30 bucks. you can do that 20 times and still save few hundred bucks and pay another rod and reel or something.

Yeah you will sweat your arse off in them snapper fishing but I take them off when rain stops. You are going to Canada not Africa. I have fished yo there, typically low humidity and it can be 80-90 degrees but it can be 40-50 too. I would spend my money on titanium leaders and lures

I’m very pleased with my Drake rainwear.

Simms Pro Dry is the only way to go. Buy a set just so you can look down on the Sitka people who think they have high class rain gear.

I saltwater fish year round, and my favorite are Grundens. I like a set of the lighter weight bibs over whatever my normal clothes are and then a hooded light rain jacket on top.
The grundens are rubberized so 100% waterproof and really easy to clean, which is important. I like being able to take them on and off easily too, but usually leave on all day unless its hot. Not a fan of the waterproofed fabrics, goretex etc. They just dont stay waterproof and they also are harder to clean fish blood, slime, etc.
My favorite all around lighter-weight bib is the Tourney

I shifted my strategy, I just get clothes that dry really fast. My fishing shirts and fishing pants dry really quick if a random shower hits us. Frogtogs are miserable. I'd rather be wet than in a stuffy nonbreathable rainsuit.

When they first came out they were good and hard to find. You’re not the first person I’ve heard say they suck in recent years.

Grundens goretex is my go to. I have some other Grndens rain jackets and bibs.
I wear wet weather gear a lot and not just when it's raining. When you're throwing a cast net for gizzard shad for big blues in the late fall and winter, you'll get wet and cold even if it isn't raining.

I keep a small Patagonia rainfly in a stiff sack like a hammock bag clipped to my tackle box it’s lasted me about 6 years I don’t wear it all the time but gets me through a spot when I need it.
If your not trying to get wet at all bibs parka and rain boots/boat boots like huk

Everything good is not cheap.
Remember your ancestors did the same thing in fricking buffalo skin and with sticks.
Out the door for under $300
Bass Pros rain gear has done great by me. The cheap froggtoggs keep you dry but it's like wearing a trash bag suit so I sweat in them and hate that.
I bought a basic black Bass Pro Bonedry jacket about 5 years ago and I've caught fish, killed deer and wore the thing to work.
You can stay dry and not spend a fortune to do it.

You don't have to "spend" a fortune but the good goretex is not cheap period. I never pay retail for anything. I got cabelas guide wear half price. Reg 600 I paid 300. But too compare 30 dollar frog tog trash bag to 100mph goretex it ain't the same stratosphere. I can wear mine in 30 degree weather layered over normal clothes rolling at 72mph and I'm dry and warm.
