Looking to be able to crappie fish while it's raining. What is some of the best light-weight rain gear available, that doesn't break your wallet? I've heard the frogg-toggs aren't very durable.

Best lightweight and wallet don’t add up. Son wears Simms. He fishes a lot.

Simms, Grundens, Cabelas, Frog Toggs, AFTCO
Figure $800 for a set, Simms challenger is trash so get next step up CX, Aftco Barricade.
I have both and so far they have been fine, ordering a set of Grundens next.

Nothing cheap will keep you dry for long in a good rain. I bought Gill jacket and bibs 8 years ago and they are still in good shape. Stay dry and warm in them.

I need to buy a set myself and I am curious what y’all think are the best.
Going to Northern Saskatchewan in July to fish for Pike and Lake Trout. It was recommended to bring some rain gear, I know most of the people wear Simms.

OMG. I just recreational fish. Anything more affordable for that type of fishing through Academy or Basspro's Redhead brand?

I have Huk. Works very well.

However, when raining stay on the porch with a rocking chair and a full ice chest.

Grundens pvc should fit the bill, similar to the deadliest catch gear but it gets hot in the summer.
Simms has a sale page that has pretty good discounts on last years colors but sizes are limited.
Simms Pro Dry is top of the line but I can’t afford them even with my discount $ 800 top $800 bib.

$1600? Jesus. Does that come with air conditioning too? That's worse than Sitka hunting clothes. We're talking about rain clothes here. I think I'll stay below the $200-$300 range as a recreational fisherman. My frogg toggs do just fine rolled up in my boat storage for spring through fall fishing to keep me dry in a pop up shower or on the ride back to the launch in the rain. I'm usually wearing gortex hunting clothes if it's winter time. If I know it's going to be a turd floating rain all day, I aint that mad at the fish. In Louisiana, rain usually brings lightning, and I ain't staying out in that anyway. Y'all crazy.

I run the 100mph Gore Tex from Bass Pro. We fish all day in the rain and stay dry. It’s the only rain gear I have owned that works all day. I have piles Frog Toggs and other brands that are either ripped or don’t work. They aren’t cheap but no good equipment is.

Not when you can have the whole drysuit for 1100.

Then all you'll need is a good hat.
(eta: top of the line - can be had cheaper)

I got some fishing bibs on a crazy clearance sale a few years ago that work very well, but they are winter bibs, so not really practical in summer. My duck hunting jacket keeps me dry all day as well, but again, not practical in summer.

The cheap frog Togs work great I find, except they are like a plastic sweat suit and don't breathe at all.

Outdoor Research breathes better and they also have stregically placed zippers to allow dumping heat.

Frogg Togg breathes like wearing a trash bag

If take decent care of them, they'll last a season. Don't leave them bundled up in a compartment in your boat. Store them inside and out of direct sun. They're no expensive so you can replace them easily. I have a coat/pant set that's going on about 4 years right now. Haven't used them this year and I see some deterioration, but they cost me about 60 to 80 bucks when I bought them. Twenty bucks a year isn't too bad in my book. Just take care of them a little.

I only trust Gortex for rain gear, you know it will be water proof.

Just get wet. The fish don't seem to mind it.
