What type and brand is everyone using for prescription sunglasses? Pricing out Costas and Oakley at $400-500 seems a bit ridiculous.

If you can find any for less than $400 let me know. I've had 3 pair and all where north of $500. For the last several years I've been making sure I can get clip on's that will fit. The last two have been like this with the magnets in the lenses. The downfall is they're not super secure if you bump them or whatever when you're running in the boat, fine as long as I leave them alone.

Yeah they’re pricey as shite. I got some Maui Jim’s. Want to really have fun? Get progressive lenses. Wife said “oh those are nice. What’d they cost?” I said “why would you even ask me that?”

I get Wiley X Rx through work. No complaints. There are several different styles and lens options. I have the Nash now.

My estimate from a local place was over $800, and that was for Wiley X. I ended up ordering from SportRx for just over $300.

$400 for Costas is a damn fine deal BTW.

I know that feeling. We used to have a Vision plan at an old job, and it would cover lenses every year if your Rx changed, and frames every other year. I had bought some glasses to use at work, and they had the magnet clip-on sunglasses. Which were better than nothing, but not that great.

A couple of years go by and I buy my first pair of Rx sunglasses. The place I was going didn't have Costa or Maui Jim, they were just regular glasses that they would put a tinted lens in.

Fast forward a few years and I'm using a different Optometrist, and they have a freaking showroom for all of the glasses they offer. I was going to get some nice Rx sunglasses this time, and I was thinking the Vision plan would help. It was still around $500 when it was all said and done, but I still have them today. My dad got me a pair of Costa Rx several years back as well. He has a connection in his hometown and all I had to do was email him my Rx. I can ask him about it if y'all are interested. It is a big outfit down there that does a ton of volume.

Wiley X Rx

Yep, gotta get that Z87.1 baw. I'm on my 3rd pair with no complaints from Walmarks. They won't get me on the cover of a saltwater sportfishing magazine, but they've been on many fishing trips.

I broke down and bought Costa's last year. I used my own frame and only paid for lenses and it was still almost $500, but you can save $200 from having to buy the frames if you have frames that will work already. I didn't like paying it but I will say I will never be without them again. If I broke or lost these I will pay again because they are worth it. I had gotten to where I couldn't tie knots while fishing anymore due to not being able to see up close. Whatever brand you go with I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Shady Rays, very inexpensive for prescription lenses and they work just fine.

Same, I needed safety glasses for work and went with Wiley X. I love them. Not sure of model though.

Ok if what you're looking for is reader sunglasses, don't buy a high end brand. In fact don't buy any brand at all. Get whatever regular pair you want (Costa's, Maui's or whatever else) and then purchase these.

LINK

They're amazing. I've got them on three pair of Costa's and a pair of Smith Optics. They stay on great, even when wet. They're non-permanent, meaning you can put them on different glasses and because they're plastic, they can be cut to size with a sharp pair of scissors or maybe a tile cutter.

DO NOT buy a pair of sunglasses with permanent readers!!!

Bond eye clinic (Denham Springs)
$300-350 Oakley prescription Gas can.

A lot of eye places run specials in the spring and summer where they give you 20 or 30 % off. Also, if you have eye care insurance you can use that if you don’t need new eyeglass frames.

Of course none of the eye places are open to help.

There are places online that are cheaper than $500 with coupon codes that they have through the year.

If you are just looking for a cheaper pair of polarized sunglasses, you should look at zeni optical online. It’s the same lenses they will put in your name brand frames but only cost about $50-$75. I have some raybans and a few cheap ones and can’t tel the difference in lenses.

As a small business owner that also is an eye doc I would implore you to talk with someone local in your area. The shutdown and subsequent economic crash has been hard on everyone. Prices seem pretty accurate in here, I bet someone local in your community would really appreciate your business when they are allowed to open again hopefully in a few weeks.
