Need some help OB. I just bought a Ruger American Gen2 Predator in .308. Got a few questions on scope selection. Looking at Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9 x40 Huntplex or Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10x40mm Rifle Scope, 1" Tube, Second Focal Plane (SFP). Any recommendations or anyone use either of these.
Trying to stay under $600 for scope and rings but want good quality optics. Shooting under 300 yards

Meopta

It’s at the very upper end of your budget but this is hard to beat for low light conditions.

If you don’t want the illuminated reticle you can get a 3-18x50 right at $600

Recommend a 30MM tube instead of 1”.

Trijicon accupoint 3x9x40 is what I have on my savage axis 2 pro in 308. Best scope I’ve ever owned as far as being about to see clearly late and tough as nails. It’s pricey though about $599 but I’m glad I bought it.

The lightest, most eye relief scope for $500 is what I’d be comparing.

Why a 30mm over a 1”?

The only significant/practical benefit is a bigger range of windage/elevation adjustment

not any negatives to it if one is in your budget

Trijicon accupoint 3x9x40

By a large margin the best 1" tube SFP basic hunting scope on the market, regardless of price. Used to be able to get one on sale for $500 on black friday.

I have both and not really any difference noticeable between the two. I just put a trijicon Huron 30mm with the hunt plex on a rifle and only have looked through it. It’s 540$ and seems like it’s as good or better glass wise than my vx3 side by side. Trijicon is supposed to be bomb proof.

Midway has vortex vipers on sale. I bought my daughter a 2.5-10x44 for her .243 for 250$. Has a 30mm tube. I’m usually a leupold guy but for 250$ for her first rifle that I’m not expecting her to shoot more than 100yds I couldn’t pass the deal.

I’ve got the Meopta Meostar and it’s amazing. I think I have it on my Remington CDL stainless in .257 WTBY.

You pay for what you get. I bought a cheaper rifle scope for a new rifle one year and it almost cost me a nice 8pt. I paid the money for a leopold scope and I love it. Don’t go cheap on a rifle scope.

I just bought this one a few weeks ago. Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10x40mm Rifle Scope, 1" Tube, Second Focal Plane (SFP)
I haven't hunted with it yet, but at the range it was very nice. The reason I got it was I heard great stuff about leupold pulling in light early and late in the day. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Had a thread about this topic a few month ago and this scope was recommended multiple times. I bought it. Trijicon Huron 3x12x40. It's awesome. Put it on 7mm-08, sighted in few weeks back and took our first deer a week ago. Phenomenal scope and was able to get it for $502 out the door at Opticplanet. Highly recommend.

Just put a Leupold 5hd 44mm on a tikka 6.5 PRC. All new set up. First time to the range today and got zeroed in 5 shots (from bore sight). First time with a nice scope and have to say it was pretty amazing.

We were making 1st round hits at 3 and 400 yards yesterday with a trijicon accupoint 3-9x40 on a bone stock tikka. Lots of people think they can do that with the deer rifles, but they are also scared to touch the elevation knob because they know anytime you twist that knob it might be a rodeo.

Not many (far as I know none) 1" tube scopes that light on the market that you can reliably dial up and down like a nightforce and trust it 100% but with the trijicons you can.

Trijicon accupoint is A LOT better than every other 1" tube scope on the market, and the huron is the next one behind it.

Do you have any experience with the Trijicon Credo?

No, but they have the same reputation as the other two and I would buy.
