Red Wolf Hybrid in Denham Springs

I had 2 of these red wolf hybrids attack my dog in Denham on the Amite River. My dog came running up from the river with these two chasing him. I ran onto my balcony and yelled so the female fell back but the male just stopped and looked at me. My dog was 30 yards from him sizing him up. He weighs 80 lbs and this "wolf' was as big if not bigger than my hound. I ran and got the first gun I could and shot a 22 at it. I missed and it ran to the woods and circled back around and hid behind a tree in the back of my yard. I shot again and it took off.
Has anyone ever seen or heard of these hybrid wolfs. I had no idea until researching online and talking to people that there are wolves in SE LA.

I have kids that play outside all the time. This makes me very worried. I hear if you shoot at them they will kind of move on and only come around when everything is quiet. I dunno though.

That's crazy man. Hope your dog is alright.
Here's the picture
I'd carry every time when outside with your kids and/or dog

What he saw in Denham Springs, Louisiana was a coyote.

I've never seen a coyote, much less two, that didn't run when a human was yelling / shooting at it. Also my dog weighs 80lbs and this animal was as tall as him and probably weighed close to the same. I saw them fairly close to each other. It's hard to tell with the thick fur though.

My wife and I both agree that the middle one looked almost identical to the larger one that was closer to the house.

You'd have to be in the Carolinas.

You sure the first one wasn’t a red coyote and the second one was a black panther?

A swoopeda and black bear was chasing my billy goat last week. The black bear could have been a trash bag, I’m not sure.

Red wolf breeding program on St Vincent Island NWR in Florida Panhandle:
Red Wolf article
It’s pretty doubtful OP saw red wolves but not completely impossible. The male on St Vincent got to over 80 lbs. I have also seen two black coyotes together. So who knows.

Wrote a research paper on the LA/TX red wolf in college many, many years ago.
Even then, they were thought to be almost extinct due to breeding with coyotes.
