still requires you to lean over the tailgate, but now you're 2ft away

Honda Ridgeline is way ahead of thiis. Tailgate can be swung open to the left or down as normal.

I have been around a friend's Honda that does this, and it's very handy. If I had it, I doubt I'd open the tailgate the conventional way much.

I've got a Ridgeline. 99% of the time I swing the tailgate open. I'm not sure I could ever own another truck that doesn't have

1 swinging tailgate
2 in bed trunk

Really hate the Gen 2 Ridgeline. Might have to keep my Gen 1 forever.

Thanks for not calling it a truck.
I think you swerved into something here, so few betas actually use their trucks for work the mfgs are adding car features for market share.

How are two people in here this slow?

Yes, I also put the tailgate down. And then have two feet of tailgate to reach over

The only thing I want my tailgate to do is fold down the same way they've been doing for a century. Manufacturers like to make gimmicks and novelties.

So you only use 2-3 feet of your truck bed, nothing goes beyond that?

I always liked the old suburban design with the split rear door. I don’t mind this though I wouldn’t pay extra for it. Digging the rams though.

ETA we do a lot of camping. Wonder how nice it would be if the back of a topper could also swing open like this ala the above suburban

what?

Guys this isn’t hard. I use my entire truck bed. But every time I get something from my truck I have to lean over a two foot tailgate. This eliminates that

This also gives two more feet of reach for those items that slide towards the front of th truck

But yes, even win this, there will still be times you have to climb into the bed

I want that in bed trunk bad, but the bed is just too short. What is there to hate about Gen 2? Gen 1 was one of the ugliest vehicles ever made.

How many times has that one item slipped just forward enough that you can't reach it with the tailgate down and you have to climb up in to get it?

That's why I keep a 1 iron in the back seat..... I really do its perfect.

It looks like useful feature to me. I have a 2018 Ram. It is my first one after owning all the others. IMO it rides the nicest, has more than enough power and gets decent fuel economy. I never considered one until a friend gave me a solid recommendation after owning his for 6 years. The Dodges of the 80 and 90's had me holding a bas against anything Chrysler. If you have not been in the latest Gen Rams you might want to take a second look.

But it just gives you an extra 2 feet like you said.
You're just a bit out of the ordinary if you are using that much space that often where this would be useful. This is useful on a suburban/Tahoe. Looks silly on a truck.

Why don't you install a bed slide if this is that important to you?

You have completely missed the point again

Every single time I grab something heavy out of the back of my truck I have to lean two feet over the tailgate. This eliminates that 100% of the time

It also eliminates the issue of something sliding in your bed and now being out of reach

I’m not sure where you are getting this tangent of extra space and such

Do you have some kind of weak tailgate that you can't pull the item towards you, then pick it up?

What a time to be alive. We're all too fat and lazy to lean over the tailgate. We need a tailgate that can open when a Rascal Mobility Scooter is loaded on the hitch carrier

I just don't get how this is a hindrance.
You simply grab it and pull it towards you, then pick it up, if it's that heavy, or you just grab it and pick it up. Do you have T-Rex arms?

So when something slides in your truck bed it only slides a few inches, and not all the way to the back of the bed?
Get something to prevent that. I have one i can adjust in my bed. put all my groceries in the bed of the truck today, and i don't recall having to lean over to pick anything up.

With a normal tailgate, i can use about 2 feet of the back of the truck to easily pick things up without leaning over. So now that you don't have the tailgate to lean over with this new desgin, you're getting 2 extra feet where you don't have to lean over to pick something up.
I have 4' to reach over to pick things up, where i'm only storing stuff from 2-4' away.
You'll have 4' to store stuff and reach over to pick things up, so you get 2 extra feet of storage.
I don't put that much shite into the back of my truck that often where those 2 extra feet make a difference to me. I get it if you do.

It's not a problem with light stuff, or things that extend over the top of the bed, but stuff like pavers, cinder blocks, bags of cement, an ice chest loaded down with ice, or that one bag of corn that fell off the stack where it becomes useful.

I'm not crazy about how it looks, but I'm fatter than I used to be, and I'm not trying to throw my back out.

I still think you don't get it.
