Came across some randomly on amazon. Any of y'all have one in the vehicle, or do these even work well enough to justify buying? I've never really considered it but it seems like if they work it might be worth getting.

Escort will be the better brand to look at but they are quite expensive. Honestly I picked up a an Escort 8500x50 on ebay used in great condition for around 50 bucks, then purchased the 12 dollar cord for it on amazon. It works great. I'm not a speeder but it has definitely saved me a few times when my attention to my speed has slipped.

I had a cheapo detector given to me by a friend that I used until it stopped working. This Escort is much more accurate and picks up police radar long ways off.

I enjoy my radar detector. I don’t speed but I like have a peace of mind knowing if it goes off I can double check my speed and all. It doesn’t go off on every cop, only if they have their radar gun turned on, though.

Valentine 1 Gen 2 and Uniden R7 are largely recognized as being the best. Plenty of customization with V1G2 if you don’t mind using your phone with it.

Radenso is releasing their new “Theia” radar detector soon that is supposed to be the end all be all.

Mine has saved me a lot! Waze is great if you’re on a heavily traveled highway like I10 or I20. I49, not so much. Not to mention all of the less traveled state highways. I use a Valentine 1.

There is a app one can use that a shite load of people use to report jams and cops. Don't know what it is, but my daughter had used it on our trip to OB. Worked great. And yes, we were diving 90+.

Have used the Escort for the past 5-6 years and it’s saved me thousands on i55. Its a must if you like to make time on rural interstates.

Spend the money on a good one and they work great, throw in using Waze at the same time and you’re usually pretty much set If you’re on a well travelled highway. Though I really don’t speed it helps keep me in check for the occasional goof. Oddly, mine gets its biggest workout when on the way to do outdoor stuff, it’s great for that BC to Venice stretch or the river roads to the camp where I might not see another vehicle for 10 miles at a time.

Mine has saved me more times than I can count.
I’ve had an Escort 9500ix since 2013, and what has shocked me the most is that I rarely encounter cops using laser. The escort will differentiate X band, K band, KA band, and laser, and probably 97% of the cops I encounter are using KA band. And the Escort will usually pick up radar from around 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. The other surprising thing I learned is that almost all cops have their radar on all the time. Rarely do I see a cop anywhere that my radar detector hasn’t alerted me to. And if you don’t want the detector aggravating you with irrelevant alerts, you can set it to ignore X and K band. It also stores and automatically alerts you to know speed traps, red light cameras, etc. People who think radar detectors are obsolete don’t know what they are talking about.

I don't consider myself a speeder anymore, not since I was in my teens or early twenties. If I need to get somewhere fast, I take Delta...

That said some of the BS speed traps get real tiresome. They hide 'em and use them for revenue.

I havent had a radar for 15 years but I may just buy one. Pretty pissed after a few recent tickets.

not really adding much to this conversation i don't guess, but i have a buddy who has the rocky mountain radar judge scrambler/detector and he absolutely swears by it. i have a few cop buddies, im wanting to borrow it and just see if it legitimitely "scrambles" as they say it does.

A radar jammer/scrambler is illegal. A laser jammer is not illegal (in most states.)

It's a paperweight. Seriously. It sucks at detecting radar and it worthless for scrambling radar.

How fast do you need to drive to justify using one?
Interstate is pretty safe under 80, I get away with 64 in Cameron parish erryday without out fail. Before instant/on they were the beez kneez but after not so much IMO.

I'm not a frequent speeder but enjoy the piece of mind, I mostly run a 60 in a 55, 78 in a 70, so for 95% of my driving I really don't need it. On longer trips I'll run 85ish or on really empty rural highways will find myself doing 70-75 in a 55 and it's saved me a handful of times when doing so.

True, but radar jamming is a federal crime. Speeding is a state crime. Slight difference there.
