The sound of beagle music gives me goosebumps. Haven't been in forty years or more. Would love to do it again.
Same here. The beagles baying up the rabbits and the hunters calling for their dogs to head them their way was like a coordinated symphony punctuated by the blast of shotguns putting rabbits on the table.

I hunt rabbits every winter.
Red wine rabbit stew is one of my favorite dinners on a blustery winter day.

My brother and I own 5 rabbit dogs and 3 deer dogs. I haven't hunted rabbits to much this year but I will after deer dog season. Don't have a lot of places to hunt like in the past but I just like to hear dogs running. So as long as I am able to, I will always own a pack of dogs but the number will go down as I get older

Believe they go up through woodville. Live in Iberville parish.
I do know he’s gone way out in Texas to rabbit hunt, and we’ve gone to south Texas nearly to Laredo to hunt hogs and rabbits on a ranch there.

Sold my beagles this past spring. Will be the first yr in 20 yrs without a pack. Chasing kids. Other projects. Lack of rabbits around here. Less places to go. The increased deer hunting with the idea that a pack of rabbit dogs “scares all my deer off”.
It doesn’t. Anyone that has ran beagles for rabbits can tell you that deer aren’t scared of them at all. Heck they’ll barely even move over. Kind of strange really.
Rabbit hunting with a few good people is a lot of fun! Kinda like dove hunting in that it’s more of a social event. Talking. Walking. And laughing

Most clubs only allow it after deer season these days, nobody wants to deal with a pack of hounds all year to make a handful of hunts in February. Sad state of affairs we’re living in…can’t stop what’s coming.
Pretty much sums it up. 90% of the land I hunted in the 70's - 80's is now leased up and not huntable for rabbit or squirrels. Some of my fondest hunting memories are squirrel, rabbit and quail hunting "back in the day" ... but that is no longer possible.

When we had rabbit dogs, a neighborhood called Stonebride was being developed on the westbank (NOLA). We hunted the rabbits block by block throughout the whole development with the beagles. Fun as hell shooting rabbits running out of those strips of woods. We hunted Jesuit Bend, Hermitage many other areas as far north as Pineville. Good times and I'll always appreciate them and my dad for getting those beagles.

I’ve seen a few YouTube videos of folks running rabbits in south Louisiana. There’s a few still out there.

if you have a boat the new islands at wax lake delta (atchafalaya WMA) are usually covered up in marsh rabbits. If you go at high water you can stomp them up but a dog or two will help greatly. Just don’t do it during duck season

Is rabbit season not during duck season? I genuinely don’t know

Well if you or ReeseWee want to run them at my place I am game.

My dad was a big rabbit hunter in the 80-90s. He says most of the places they hunted are not accessible (leased, etc) or don’t exist anymore due to land loss or developments. Sometimes they’d take the boat out and island hop in the marshes.
I went a few times as a kid and always loved it. Now it’s very rare to go. One of his old hunting buddies still does field trials and we go hunt with him.
