Have you been pretty happy with the purchase?

I've been looking for a used one without any luck. Considering a new one. I got a quote from ARE, right at $2500. I usually trailer my four wheeler on the rare occasion that I have to move it. I'd be able to throw a kayak/pirogue on the top rack. I could also sleep in the back on overnight trips instead of pitching a tent. It seems like a lot to spend on a depreciating asset. If I knew it'd fit my next truck I wouldn't be so hesitant.

I hope someone responds, can you go through a drive-thru carwash in that setup as well. I've always eyed that same camper shell.

i have the overland on my tundra, its paint matched and looks great, has held up well for 5 years.

I had the rails added and then fount some used yakima racks to save money, also got some light in it from factory.

I pop the rails off before a drive through car wash.

ARE makes SOLID shells, I wouldn't be hesitant.

Honestly you quoting $2500 seems cheap, these things were $1500+ in the 90's.

I found a used one after looking for a while but really like it since having one.

If buying new I would look into the flip up side windows if possible. Worst part of owning one is having to crawl in it when shite slides all the way to the front.

If you're going for a new one I'd suggest looking in to upgrading to the win-doors, it would make putting stuff in/out much easier.

I can't really comment on pricing, mine was a freebie from someone on the OB that wanted it out of his yard. I'm a cheap bastard so I wouldn't drop $2500 on one but if I was in the market I could spend $1000-$1500 and hopefully find a used one. Mine is a high topped, hard sided one. I wish it had the win-doors.

I've camped/slept in it a few times using one of those truck bed air mattresses, they're quite comfortable and modestly priced as well.

ETA: I also take mine off/on a few times a year, it's off currently. They're held on with 8 clamps, I can get it off with the help of one other person fairly easily.

That's my main hang up. I've been keeping an eye out for around 6 months. I know as soon as I put a deposit on a new one I'll see a decent used on on the marketplace.

I got one for my 2016 f150. Great for camping. I got a tent that covers just my tailgate. Im tall so a 5'5" bed doesnt work for me.

Worked great for an antelope hunt in 2019.

Found on FB marketplace for 400.

here you go, facebook marketplace, most used ones are around $500 and still in great shape, its crazy to waste money on a new one LINK

just confirm your bed size, because crew cabs have shorter beds then extended cabs

Thanks, the problem is it's for a new Ranger. It's a short bed length and short top of bed to top of truck height. There aren't many models for other trucks that fit them and since they've only been around in the US since 2019 used ones are scarce.

Yeah...I've been looking for 2 years solid. A decent one at a decent price just doesn't come up all that often. I'm not even that picky about color matching

I sold one for 06 Tundra double cab a few years ago for $400. It sold in about 1/2 hour and the guy drove about 700 miles round trip to get it. He advised he had been searching craiglist and facebook every day for 6 months trying to find one. He didn't care that mine was gray and his truck was white.

In hindsight I should have listed it for $350 more than I did

I have a leer with the flip up side windows and the leer locker - a drawer that attaches to the roof and extends down on an angle when you open it. I go through the car wash all the time. I love it. There are certainly times when it’s difficult without the open bed, but those are very few.

i have one on my tundra. for general hunting fishing rear hatch only w slide windows is fine.

for upland dog hunting i’d want the gullwing side windows

i recommend the leer locker roof mount pull down gun locker as well.

Scooped up and RSI smart cap. It’s pricey but no regrets.

Threw load bars on it with some material from tnutz.com for under $200 to haul my 12ft wilderness systems tarpon.

It was between the RSI, Alu-cab, or the RLD. Was leaning toward the alu-cab but found a RSI local so it was a no brainer.
