In the market for a full size 9mm. I have always been a S&W guy and I'm leaning towards the M&P M2.0. I've got quite a few friends in LE that swear by Glocks though. One of them recommended the G19 Gen 5. I'm admittedly pretty unfamiliar with Glocks.

Anyone shot either of these or have any recommendations?

Looking to spend no more than $600ish

TIA

UPDATE: Ended up going with the M&P. Thanks for all the responses.. like some others said, I'll probably end up getting the Glock too eventually

of course they do. it's all they've ever used and they believe themselves to be authorities on firearms since they're cops.

M&P 2.0 with Apex flat-faced forward set trigger blows away anything you can do with a Glock.

I prefer my H&K VP over my M&P 2.0.

The smith and Wesson looks better. Shoots better. Has a better trigger. Better sights. All of it. And my 9mm has been a fine gun.

But I still prefer to carry a glock.

Why? In 20000+ rounds fired out of glocks, I have never had a single failure to fred, fire, or eject.

When bapple came to the range in Grosse Tete with his M&P, he was having trouble with some lightly loaded reloads. Ftf one after the other. I shot three mags of it flawlessly.

Shoot what you can shoot well. And shoot what works.

buy the one that you thinks looks the coolest and fits your hands the best. When you shoot someone in the face, the cool factor of how you feel when you grab your piece makes all the difference in the world when it comes to confidence.

Both are great guns. Can't go wrong with either. Buy whichever fits your hand better then go have fun. You will probably end up buying the one you didn't get and end up having both. Don't ask how I know.

Also, I would look at the M&P 2.0 Compact if going the M&P route.

I have always like S & W, whether revolvers or semi-autos. They're reliable and made here.

Glocks and M&Ps have different weight recoil springs. If I remember correctly, using S&B primers in my 40 reloads actually caused inconsistent ignition and made them feel like powderpuff rounds. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen that bizarre primer characteristic but there’s always a degree of error you accept when shooting handloads.

None of my 3 M&Ps have ever experienced a malfunction with factory ammo and I have my handload practices much tighter now than I did 4 years ago.

I’m not discounting your Glock’s reliability but the M&P is much more user-friendly from my experiences shooting and teaching new shooters. The ergonomics of the M&P outshine the ergos of Glock or my FNS9 that has a similar blocky grip. I will say the crowd favorite has been Ms Bapple’s VP9 since the grip is so excellent. I will say it appears my M&P core is more prone to limp-wrist malfunctions with new shooters but I think that has more to do with the rear-weighted slide from the RMR being on it.

The “Glock-or-nothing” mentality is an outdated one. You can run a 50,000+ round torture test and claim Glock as king but no one in the civilian world will ever use a gun to this potential outside of maybe competition shooters.

To the OP, stick with a reputable brand and buy what feels best in your hand. And then practice like a madman with your choice.

Get a HK P30 v1. It's a bit above your price range...research it against the VP9 to see if it's worth it to you.

I got one in my family that keeps telling me that the 9mm is inadequate for police duty but perfectly fine for civilians to use in a defensive situation.

Try to go and shoot both first, the glocks feel like shite in my hand and it is the complete opposite for the M&P. I picked up a upgraded M&P awhile back and still cant shoot it for shite. I shoot my brothers gen 4 glock though and it almost looks like I know what I am doing. I shoot everyone of my other pistols better than my M&P
