This

I was trying to help one of my guys locate a place to hunt.

Finding a place with Bears, and finding one with a nice boar that's patterned in daylight is another thing.

The bunny huggers apply for those tags too. Messes things up in a lot of states that need balance added to game animal herds.

I’d like to see a season in late August or early September when the bears are in the cut corn fields. Much easier to find a big boar then.

In Florida bunny huggers paid many hunters upwards of 2k for their permits

If that T-boy saw a 135-160in deer would he have let it walk?

it was a huge campaign in Florida for that and just applying for tags they intended to throw in the trash.

I would expect and hope that the FWC will just raise the number of available tags next year and net the profits from everyone buying tag applications.

If you need 10 bears killed only 1 bear is killed, then next year sell 100 tags hoping 10 bears are killed.

Tensas did not get enough tags. I saw more bears this year than ever before. They are now climbing in stands looking for food and tearing up everything.

Recently talked to someone that is in the large carnivore program, for LDWF and he said there was a large influx of PETA type program applications (tree hugging vegans) and some of the tags went to those folks as well. Win win for the department from cash flow but undermines the effectiveness of the program. They are gonna try and develop a work around procedure moving forward to weed out bogus applications.

The work around is to release more tags.

Can any LA resident apply for a tag or does one need to be a current hunting license holder?

You'd think the tree huggers are not license holders and it would be pretty easy to limit tags to current license holders to weed those out.

I would hope they would have to pass hunter safety course prior to applying. Maybe there needs to a 10 year minumum time as a licensed hunter to apply.

and recycle unused tags in jan...

My cousins husband had a Florida tag. He got offered the 2 gs to give it up. He stuck it out but couldn’t get one. We have a pile of them but they all but disappeared by the time he could hunt. You also could only legally bait with deer products. No honey buns allowed according to fwc.

I really see them in Jan once most deer hunters leave the woods. I was shocked when I was in FL in late 80s(playing Navy) how many bears they actually had - but they also had TONS of food.

We have had them since we started using cameras 25 years ago. This year there were more. A few young ones but there was one giant. We pretty much quit corn. Guy that keeps up the farm had to build a cage over our little dumpster. It is as rigged as you can imagine but I guess it works. Bears were rolling the dumpster over and dragging my aunts trash out in the woods. They are a pain but I’m still torn on shooting one. I’ll apply for a tag next year again. If I get one I will kill one. I kind of enjoy them slowing the corn dumping and giving my old aunts a little anxiety.
