Official 1911 Thread

There’s been a lot of 1911 threads, and since they’re almost as popular as AR-15s, why not have a “Everything regarding 1911s” thread.
I was gonna start one regarding something new I did to my 1911 tonight. I’ve got a typical mil spec Rock Island 1911. It came with a parkerized finish and smooth wood grips. Surprisingly, it also came with a full length guide rod and a beaver tail safety. I forgot to take before pictures, but here’s basically what I have.
I went to the local Oreilly’s Auto Parts and picked up some aluminum colored VHT (Very High Temp) Ceramic Coating Spray paint. It’s intended for headers, but I figured if it could work on something that hot, it should work on a 1911 frame. Here’s the after pictures.
I preheated the frame at 250 degrees for 15 minutes in the over to open the pores of the metal after sanding the finish off the best I could. Painted it and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then I baked it in the oven for 30 minutes and let it rest for another 30 minutes. Reassembled and what you see above is the finished product.
Also added checkered grips and a rubber finger grip as well. Now I look like you Kimber owners.

That looks awesome.
If you have it taken down that far I’d tell you to get to work on that trigger.
It’s night and day difference and is not a hard process with the proper stuff.
You need this:
Ed Brown sear
Then a hard AR stone.
The biggest difference pull weight is the sear spring. Mainly the two legs on the left.
Left leg is the sear and middle is the trigger.
You can move/bend the sear too far.

How does that Ed Brown Sear Fixture work?

Might as well have an official Glock thread too, so they don't feel left out.

Speaking of Glocks, I may do my slide with this paint. Then it’ll look like the new G48 and G43x.

i got 2 1911's. Both are on the pricier side. I haven't even shot them yet and really don't plan to shoot them much. More of heirloom type guns. In any case, i've been having the itch to buy another 1911 and that being more of the shooter 1911. Maybe an E series or something.

I've loved the 1911 since the day my dad put a Colt Ace 22 in my hands when I was 7. I currently have five 1911's, including a micro version in that number and just ordered a 6th yesterday.
Colt Delta Elite 10mm (1st Gen)
Colt Gold Cup National Match .45
Rock Island Ultra FS 9mm
Rock Island Ultra FS 10mm
Sig P238 Equinox .380
Adding a matching Sig P938 Equinox 9mm

I've been looking into both the S&W E series and the various Sig 1911's. Will hopefully be purchasing one of them soon.

Mine with grips borrowed from Clames. I still have not decided which grips to get to replace the stock black ones that I don't like.

that's a nice collection. i'm thinking my next 1911 purchase will be a real life Colt.

Sorry Finch, didn’t see this until now.
Basically you attach the sear to the jig with the sear pin from the gun. You then back the Allen screw out some until the sear is tight to the jig.
Then with the feeler gauge (comes with the jig) oil both the flat on the jig and feeler gauge and start to stone the sear with the AR stone. Until it’s even tmwith the feeler gauge. I have the gauge up against the sear.
Once that’s done use your stone on the notch on the hammer. Make sure you keep that angle square and just use the stone enough to smooth the contact area.
That’s it.
To really get the trigger good work on the two legs of the sear spring. Center and the left.

I wish they made the Ruger 9mm Commander with a black or deep blue finish. I guess I could get one and get it Black-T’d.

I like that stainless slide. I may paint mine to finish the look.

My next gun will be a 1911. I’m thinking I want a Dan Wesson Bronze Bruin 10mm

Only one I've got right now is the Ruger. I've had several including Taurus, Rock Island, Citadel, & Sig. Will hang on to the Ruger. It's been my favorite so far.
