I've been shooting an 80 pound Hoyt at work and it is plenty for me. I usually like shooting 65 or 70 but that extra 10 pounds makes such a difference in how long you can shoot between resting. Couldn't imagine a 95 pound.

Yea frick that. I just dropped my draw weight this year.

I'll stick with 80lb. My biggest question is going to be length. I have about 1/2" of play and I'd like a 29.5 instead of 29, but the new cams on the ventum aren't overlapped so 29 is top end of one and 29.5 is bottom end of the bigger. You actually get more speed being on the top end of the small cam than the bottom end on the big cam.

What's the word on Hoyt? Does it live up to the name? I'm looking at an entry full package Hoyt Torrex, and want to make sure I have something reliable that I can really get proficient with before ever dropping Matthews cash

all the bows will kill deer if you put the arrow in the right spot
once you figure out if you actually like bowhunting, then worry about the weight of the bow and fps and all that

I bought a VXR 31.5 after last year and just finished doing a full setup from scratch at my little personal bow shop I have setup in my shop.
I really took some time to find my perfect nock point and peep sight elevation to get that perfect anchor point. I have bare shaft tuned, paper tuned and walk back tuned. I’ll be ready to broadhead tune and begin shooting all off-season

I've had to force myself to stop watching bowhunting youtube videos. The offseason sucks, but hey, it's fishing time!
Just started bowhunting last year, so I can't wait to get back into the woods to do some scouting. 100% public land here as well.

the offseason is for tinkering and perfecting your set up
I want to get my new bow just so I can build my arrows and begin the tuning process

You don’t have to buy really used to save money. I bought an unregistered elite remedy shipped to my door for $725. You can save a lot buying on archerytalk or through fb marketplace.
It’s definitely tinkering season. I ordered a new sight and the new hamskea level, I’m ready to mess around and get everything dialed.

I bought my bow (Hoyt RX-3) on Archerytalk from a guy in Kentucky. Paid $985 with the shorty quiver and QAD rest. The guy bought it new in September 2019, used it for two hunting seasons and I bought it in January 2021. Looks absolutely mint. Just the bow new was $1,700 at the time. Quiver and rest new are about $150 each so I made out.

Yep, to me those are the best deals. You’re getting a new bow at a reduced cost with no taxes and a lot of times they aren’t registered so you still get the warranty. I haven’t found great deals on used sights and rests individually, I normally buy those new with a coupon code during a sale or something. If you can get them as part of a used bow package, they basically give them away.

My problem buying used is being left handed

I’m usually counting down the days for the bow opener on Oct 1st. Shot my biggest with a bow last year on our lease and shot a real nice one the year before on public. The one difference between this year and next is this year I’m counting down the days for September 2nd where I have an archery tag for elk in Colorado. Shot an elk before with a rifle but I can’t wait for the opportunity with a bow.

I'm so ready for bow season this year. Last year i didnt get to bow hunt after i tore my bicep in august and had surgery september 1st.
Started pulling my bow back in february and shooting more each week. Im excited about the season and cant wait to see what bucks we have this year.

Small personal anecdote and observation. I’ve been hunting for my first AR over the past month or so, and I’ve noticed how barren a lot of bow stock is as well. In my small talk at Bowie the fellas mentioned they were having a tough time stocking bows. With the scarcity of rifles and ammo, I suspect archery is going to see participation like never before. If you need arrows or servicing, probably should go ahead and get them now.

It’s always tough this time of year. The new models have been out just long enough for there to be solid reviews and it’s just the right time of year (as evidenced by this thread) to start tinkering and upgrading...also Bowie is like the worst archery shop in the state
