Captain Charlie Thomason just posted this on his FB. Not saying it's legit or fake, but he is very well respected in the charter captain community.

Fake FB post. Still nothing on WLF website or on their FB page.

I think it's pretty real bro. If you're fishing on the 20th I'd tread lightly if you plan on greasing a bunch of 12ers

Lol I guess they couldn’t handle the heat of facing the public in making this decision so instead they sneak it past everyone. I’ve seen more trout caught this yr than I can recall in my lifetime.

They didn't sneak anything by anyone. This was the second proposal. The first one had a WLF Commission meeting, then went on public notice and then there was a Senate natural resource committee meeting. NR kicked it back to commission, then the current proposal was presented. Another commission meeting and comment period. Senate Committee decided to take no action and now we have the limits being enacted November 20. Pretty much by the book.

These changes are being made based upon public comment provided during the comment period for the original Notice of Intent, comments heard during previous commission meetings, and during a Legislative Oversight hearing held on February 1, 2023.
blame it on the public - nice spin

No idea what public, but I don't think anyone in Lafourche or Terrebonne went to WLF and said "we aren't catching fish, go lower the limits please"

I saw were the leg. Committee also turned down the NOI for redfish. Suggested 4 fish 18-27”

Great, now all of those released 20” fish are gonna start eating the smaller trout until the population dwindles away

This is what happens when you make regulations based on feelings and not science... IDC about the overall limit, but moving to 13" is asinine, it shifts more pressure to female fish, breeding female fish!!! Two over 20" is fine too. They could have left the limit the same, kept the size the same and introduced a slot and it would have been way more effective. I would be OK with the slot stopping at 18" with the 2+ over 18".

Nope. It increases numbers of breeding stock overall.
All those 12" fish will hopefully live an extra 6 months and get to 13". This means every trout will hopefully breed before getting boxed. It won't change fishing habits at all.

I had a captain refuse to keep his limit the last weekend in September. I wouldn't trust a meme that isn't backed up anywhere on the wlf or Louisiana legislation site currently.

Can’t act like you are all for science and then use the “overharvesting female fish” argument against the regs. That was an outdated argument popularized by Gerald Horst.
Yes, the % of female trout harvested will very very slightly increase but the total number of female trout harvested will decrease.
