It is a damned good thing that bullet technology hasn't improved 1 iota since.

(And I'm an old school, big bore guy myself, so I'm not hating on you, baw.)

Yeah, my reference was to the guy with the pcp example, saying my Fox 5.3 would not work on him. It was to show that the gun would not work, me being very familiar with the details of that incident.

When hit with Fox 5.3, all you can think is, " am i going to be able to catch my next breath to stay alive. " Nothing else. You even put the burn aside.

The Freeze +p has CS as well as OC. With it, you focus on breathing, but also the burn seems worse than 5.3, and, the CS is making you drool 2 foot long slime out of nose & eyes.

The respiratory fright is scary from the Fox 5.3.

Platt was hit with a Winchester silvertip bullet, 9 mm.

I'm well aware and it is the only non-lethal agent I recommend to folks in casual settings.

Humans have conditioned themselves (and, in some cases, trained dogs) to one or the other agent, but it is the rare person who willingly gets exposed to both over and over. Highly effective and if you run up against a person with a robust constitution and/or a resistance to either agent, you have a good chance with the other or the combination to have the desired effect - if only long enough to break contact, disengage and escape.

I hope the OP's daughter gets training on situational awareness, reactionary gap, tricks that bad guys will use to close the gap, and gets the Fox 5.3.

I would encourage group training, even if it is private. Have helpers nearby, and learn what it feels like on the receiving end. You will gain the utmost confidence in OC. Thats how officers are certified.

Learn the trajectory by using old, out-of-date cans.

Maybe a self defense class along with the gun to build her confidence and give her some ways to defend and escape first.

I gave each of my girls a Ruger 9mm 5 shot revolver. Easy to handle, just point and shoot. I also sent them to classes with a professional instructor

I gave my wife a hammerless LCR for her purse. For a pistol beginner, no worries about a hammer getting caught on anything on the draw. Revolver is as reliable and simple to use as it gets.

Glock 42. I’m not a fan of LCPs. It’s a pistol she can hold and learn to shoot properly. Honestly it’s one of my favorite carry guns.

If she is going to shoot regularly get her an auto. If she is going to shoot once and depend on it get a Ruger LCR 38.
If she carry and auto she needs to learn how to cycle the slide. If the gun jams will she be able to clear a jam etc.

Agree with Hutton as first choice. Having said that, 38 special. I got my wife a 9mm semi auto, and she has practiced with it, my Colt Python, and a number of other pistols and rifles, and is a good shot. One night when I was out of town, the alarm went off (false alarm), and when she grabbed the semi-auto, she accidentally hit the mag release instead of the safety, and the mag went crashing to the floor. High stress scenario, when it really counts, you either need VERY simple, or else better have TONS of muscle memory.

Practice with light load, target rounds. DO NOT have them practice with +P hollow points. It's a waste of hollow points, and makes way more recoil than is fun to shoot. They'll get more comfortable with the target rounds, and not care if the day ever comes when they have to fire the +P's.

Literally just bought my 18 yo daughter a Sig 320X 9mm last week. Went to the range today and it’s a very impressive pistol. Slim grip for smaller hands and not bad on recoil.

Very effective, but a nightmare to shoot

eta: this was my fist handgun purchase and I carry it every where I go. I can slip it in my front pocket with no evidence of it being there.

Smith and Wesson makes an M&P Model 9mm that fits in my hand better than any 9mm I own! The Grip, Everything is very slim and sleak.

On top of the gun advice, if she were my daughter I'd tell her...

If you can see the trouble coming, or think it's coming, do not under any circumstances let someone get within arm's reach of you. I'd rather you shoot some a-hole at twenty feet, with intentions unknown, then risk him getting to you.

I'm talking like if she's in a parking garage or something. Obviously you'd tell them to stop, etc, but I wouldn't let anyone approach me, and I damn sure wouldn't if I was a young woman that weighed 125.
