That from some kind of plan Booga? How'd you do the finish on the top. Similar to something I'm trying to find time to build. And we have the same laptop bag so it feels right

DIY L Shaped desk
The plans weren't the best but I managed. I jointed, planed, and biscuit joined the top. Then 2 coats of special walnut, and 3 coats of poly for the shine.
One hernia from moving the damn thing

i found out my FIL has hundred (literally probably 200+) primed 1x12s, 16 ft long that has been sitting in his tractor shed for about 10 years. I knew it was out there, but thought it was all crown and base molding. When i stumbled across the 1x12s i almost screamed like a little girl.
he has no used for that much, so it's pretty much all mine. i've got a lot of projects planned.
Built this table with it. Which is before i painted and antiqued it.
others that i've put together over the past 6 months or so. kinda boring stuff, but made a little bit of cash from it.

Got to love free lumber.
Nice work.
Today I did get out and played a little. I am in need of some shoe molding. Supplying the clean lumber for someone to make the shoe molding, they wanted a $1 a running foot.
Well, I figured what I wanted and was time to make some. two saw horses, couple screws and a board. I just screwed the board to the saw horses.
Using a 1/4" round router bit and off setting it a small bit, I was happy.
After that, just unscrew the board and pass it on the table saw.
The profile. 7/8" high by 5/8" thick. Shitty picture with the top off set, but I am happy.
Made more then enough for the front bedroom on my guest house build. I will be able to make more with no trouble in the future.
Made 10, 10' pieces. Cost? Zero.

FIL just remodeled his kitchen and did the same. Yours looks better than store bought as well

The base boards are 5 3/4" wide. All oak.
This is the flooring I put down in the living room and kitchen. 100+ years old quarter sawed pine.

Cool start to the day, But was feeling like a young buck.
Days work, needing a closet door that will be installed as a sliding door. Size, 38 1/2"x 82 1/2". All made out of oak.
So, started with this. Pile of rough sawed oak that has been drying the last 9 months off my sawmill.
>
After sawing up some 2x6's, using the jointer to get a true straight edge and then passing those on the table saw and then passing all thru the planner.
Got a start. Then laying out, sawing and then passing what was needed on another table saw that has a dado blade and passing everything thru.
Once that was done, I had to repeat with some thru 4/4 x7" boards.
Oh, what a mess. This picture doesn't do justice. Picked up 5 3/4 55 gal drum of saw dust to burn off.
Now the door. Still not glued together. Never enough time in a day.
Will glue it together tomorrow and start building the hangers and track.

ETA - there is nothing that causes a mess moreso than the planner. i feel like i could mulch my garden afterward

Don't do that with pine or oak. They will burn everything due to acid. I just burn it off. Goes up very fast.

Oh, if you have farm animals, the planner dust is good bedding for them. I don't do farm animals anymore.

What kinda wood would you recommend for a rustic jewelry armoire? Our house has a lot of hickory inside but that’s so hard to work with.

Stained or painted?
I love working with poplar. Cheap and looks good. Most of what I make my wife paints so no need to go expensive.
If stained look at walnut or cherry. Walnut is beautiful.

Invest in some Kreg jigs and accessories, I've built tables, book cases, a shadow box, and a small shed door with mine. Kreg jig, biscuit joiner, and plenty of large quick clamps and pipe clamps.

Stained. She wants it to look old.
