Live edge bench - oak top, oak trestle, walnut legs attached to top by oak-wedged through tenons. I carved the feet with a grinder, tried to make them look like the base of a tree.

Have you ever done that before with cypress wood?

If I made that bench, I'd pour several drinks and just sit there and look at it for a long time. That's awesome.

Thanks guys. Here are a couple of more pics. Been drying these 8/4 boards we had milled from a tree we took down in our back yard a couple of years ago. I used the one on the left. Built a router sled to flatten it.

No, but it would probably work great if you found the right slab.

One other thing...In the past I've used either Minwax polyurethane or Polycrylic, or occasionally lacquer, to finish furniture. But this time I used Danish oil on the walnut and satin Arm-R-Seal on the oak. If you've never used Arm-R-Seal before, it's worth the cost. It's a noticeably higher quality finish.

You did a fine job. Spall oak is one fine looking lumber. It pops out real nice. I have a bunch of it inside my guest house build.

I built a table to fit two komado grills and a large outdoor sink/cabinet combo out of cheap pressure treated fenceboards.

Also, i have the carpentry skills of a monkey.

Thank you. My wife and I would love a cypress wood slab for a dining room table

Yes, we got lucky with the spalting. We didn't really want to take the tree down, but we were adding on to the house and it just wouldn't have survived. I had two 10 ft sections quartersawn, still have about 200 bd ft left.

Got 5-6 oak trees standing that died last spring. I am leaving them up till this spring. Then I will fell them and saw them up on my sawmill. The spalting should set in real good.

I’ve got two slices from the base of a cottonwood tree that had two separate rings and looks really awesome. I’ve been trying to decide what to do with them. They’re about 40” in diameter and about 6 inches thick. Any ideas?

Wedged through tenon's are freaking awesome.

I tried them a couple times. Can never get the gaps closed without splitting the damn wood tho.
