I looked at that video atleast ten times. My best guess would be a large tom bobcat. With a really long tail for a bobcat.

I only what we call them. We have the Harris Property... um a property we call the fur which is out in a different county, and the edwards property which is along the river. I know where they are on maps... at least the harris and edwards.

eta: You know where the catfish house is thats back off of 27 north of 84 around rail road tracks? That's the property where this thread is about.

I'm not sure which would be more awesome, if you went out and took that pic just for this thread or if you already had taken that pic "just because".

Your Video is 100% bobcat.

TO you guys saying there is no such thing as a black cougar are wrong. I have seen a picture of one from out west. I wish I had saved it now. There was a thread on another forum about a girl seeing a black panther dead on the side of the road. She got the same laughs this guy is getting and someone said there is no such thing as even a black cougar. The guy then posted the picture of it plain as day.

I don't believe in black panthers or that anyone is seeing a black cougar. I do wonder though if they aren't seeing florida panthers they are darker than cougars.

I always thought that the Florida Panther was simply a sub-species of the american Cougar. Need to do some research i guess.
I do know that I used to hunt just outside of Glouster Mississippi and we would go tent camping on the property at times. I heard some very loud and very scary screams on that property and would swear that what I was hearing was a cougar screaming. Never seen anything black or tan but after we heard those screams we didn't camp out until we had a camp house built

A black Cougar is probably once in a lifetime thing so I doubt there are hundreds of them running all over the south. I was just saying that there is such a thing as a black cougar.

No a Florida panther is not a cougar.

I've heard of melanistic jaguars (very possible 'out west' as that is where they are found), but never cougars. And yeah, the leading cause of death in Florida panthers is vehicles, so this makes sense. Why they don't just make an overpass for them is beyond me.
If you go to cougarnet.org they have some good info on sightings, scat, tracking, all that stuff.

He said the road in the front of the picture is 10 ft wide. He claims it looks about as big as his 70# lab. He is going to go stand in the same spot and take a picture to compare sizes.

The tail is way too thin/skinny to be a cougar.
