Whatever the hell it is, panther/cougar/puma or whatever. It's big and black and they have pics. They've been seeing the tracks for a bit though. Along a river in Monticello, MS

You keep saying this so I have to ask you what would you call a big black 90+ pound cat with a 4 ft tail?

My cousin & I saw one jump off a cut bank on a dirt road outside Sikes, LA. He stood in the middle of the road for 30 seconds or so and leaped up on the cut bank on the other side of the road.

He/she was jet black.

I believe it.. I know at our camp people have claimed to see Jaguarundi's running around. I hunt up in Bush, La and our property backs up to a neighborhood. A lot of the residents claim to have seen it, but it's never come across any of my trail cameras.

Just b/c you have never seen one doesn't mean they don't exist. The sighting I'm talking about was in 1967. Where were you?

There are melanistic (black) forms of the leopard, jaguar, or cougar which people may consider to be a black panther but the fact is that the leopard/jaguar was born with melanistic (black) chromosomes instead of normal pigmentation chromosomes.

Jaguars, bobcats or Leopards can be black.

Cougars cannot be black.

First off, if it ate me, I would have a hard time coming up with a name for it or communicating that name to anyone else as I would be dead.

Second, we will wait on the picture. If it is a black cougar it will astound the scientific community. But I know it won't be a black cougar just as I know that it won't be bigfoot.
