no. owner of the club who has the pics doesn't even have enterwebz. never promised pics. i don't give a shite what you want to call the black big arse cat. I doubt its a bobcat. Some sort of puma/leopard/jaguar or whatever.

It's not a jaguar in Mississippi, and it's not a black cougar/puma as there can be no such thing.

It could be a black bobcat, which I highly doubt as well. Your friend doesn't know what he is looking at or he is messing with you.

Seriously, if he has got a picture of a black cat larger than a bobcat he will make history.

Why do you people keep saying this? Do you not understand the difference between "as there can be no such thing" and "there has never been a documented case of the black melatanistic color phase in Puma concolor"? Someone please show me a link and "BOOM" me at will...but I think ya'll are confusing the impossible with the undocumented....

As far as me? I'm not saying I believe that there's black "panthers" etc...but I don't disregard the possibility just because there's never been a recorded case..

I've seen a link to the research before (now, you can't prove that there wasn't such a link). However, the fact that there has never been a recorded case in all the years this country has been widely settled it pretty damning evidence.

I don't have the time right now, but I will try to find the scientific evidence.

There was a big cat in the Bush Waldhiem area, we have a large spred in Bush. We would always see trees that were scraped to hell and would hear what sounded very much like a big cat. There is a big branch that runs through that whole area all the way to the bogue chitto. I have talked to many other land owners along the branch that have seen the same signs as well as three that claim to have seen one. There was differently something big around bc a full size lab and black mouth cur were found half eatin.

The three did not know/talk to the other and all three described the same thing, a big black cat.

Thanks Deacon.... I would like to read that study (seriously, not sarcastically). I'm almost positive that it would've involved trying to duplicate the black melatanistic color phase in a controlled environment (captivity) and failed; therefore, proclaiming because they couldn't do it, it was "impossilbe".

I'm just wondering why people think it's "impossible"... Is there any studies on why? Is it a genetic or biological reason? Is it impossible to align the alleles in such a way that they couldn't get the recessive trait?

I'd put money on that being a jaguarundi.

Texas Parks and Wildlife:

quote:

Contrary to popular belief, there are no black panthers in North America; no one has ever captured or killed a black Mountain Lion. Mountain Lions are also called cougars, pumas, panthers, painters, and catamounts.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries

quote:

The only species of big cats that occur as black are the jaguar and leopard. Jaguars are native to South America and leopards are native to Africa. Both species can occur as spotted or black, although in both cases the spotted variety is much more common. Although the department receives numerous calls about "black panthers", there has never been a documented case of a black cougar anywhere in North America.

Wild black tomcat with no ears (not sure if he lost them fighting or due to weather). There is a white Persian one that appears sometimes.

That is a freaking house cat. No where the tail length or the mass to be anything else. That thing is like 12 inches tall!

Uhhh, ya think? Perhaps that's why I said it was a wild tomcat on the post right before yours.

Thanks for keeping up.

How much are you putting down? Because I'll be glad to bet that it's just a large house cat.
