I have a mix of spinning rods with braid, and mono. For inshore, and bass fishing, what pound test do you spool up with? I typically use 10#, and depending on the situation a leader.

Keep 20 or 30 lb braid on a few rods.
Flipping rod gets 50lb braid.
Mono rods are 17lb Trilene big game (I think it's 17, might be 15).

Just strung up a surf fishing rod with 65lb braid and a wire leader. Hoping for a big shark at the beach next week.

12 lbs. as a general rule. I have 17 on my worm rod, but most everything else I run 12 lbs test.

15 Lb braid with 25-30 fluero or mono leader on both baitcasters and spinning reel setups; mono for top water baits. Fluero for everything else. But I'm average to below average fisherman. Usually the Only time I break off is when it's hung and I intentionally break off...

20lb Braid on all but 2 rods. I use 12lb Mono on my Buzz Bait / Spinner Bait setup and my Speckled Trout set up.

Bass inshore it’s 10-12 lb test. I find that anything larger mono is a bitch to throw on a baitcaster.

My inshore reel is 20# braid.

12# Ande mono no leader if its just tightline to jighead

20-30# Seaguar Flouro leader for plugs and between cork and
bait

I used to have all my reels spooled with Power Pro Super Slick 8. Took it all off. I liked that I could put the braided line on and it didnt coil or degrade. However all the bs tangles and knots around rod eyes and spools really got me agitated after a while. Back on the mono train and much happier.

12# mono on the few reels that are spooled with mono. Everything else is 30# braid.

so now everyone jumps back on the mono bandwagon? Glad Im not the only one. I was suckered into the bassmaster florocarbon hype, for a while but now Im back on the mono train.

15lb trilene big game leader tied to 40lb power pro brain with an FG knot

I tried the braid, didn’t like the feel of it and immediately switched back.

You can feel a croaker fart with braid. Love it.

i think braid had one and pretty much only one good use and that was for jigging bass in heavy weeds and stumps. you needed something for that that cuts through weeds without breaking and braid suited that perfectly

sure you can always use any line for anything but thats the best suited line for jigging heavy cover

the florocarbon craze was an experiment and it has its uses but it has as much negatives as positives and zero stretch can cause more break offs

mono was always the tried and true reliable line but it stretches and dries out in sunlight so it needs to be changed regularly every year or you risk losing fish.

all i use is 15# mono for bass, reds, and specks and never needed or found anything better

Power pro super slick 8 for me in 40 lb on all my bait casters. Fishing with mono now is like fishing with a rubber band. I use 17 lb fluoro leader on sinking lures and 20-25 lb test mono on topwater baits. I quit bass fishing years ago and mainly chase trout these days.

For freshwater and marsh fishing I want 10 pound test mono or fluorocarbon.

For saltwater I prefer 15-20 pound if fishing in the surf area where bigger fish can be found.

I hate braid. Never use it unless I am using one of my brothers reels. I never punch so I don't even see the need to put up with the hassles of braid and the knots that it forms on anything it touches, including itself.

I hated braid at first, but I love it now. It's super strong and it won't dry up and rot like mono will. And it's thinner too.

Most people compare braid to equal poundage mono, if you compare it to equal diameter mono it performs similar in castability and knot strength with a higher breaking point and better sensitivity.

If you buy premium flouro you won't notice a difference between it and mono minus the bungy cord feel of mono. Like mono, flouro comes in different compositions to improve castability or abrasion resitance pick the one for your situation.

The only application I consider mono an option is crankbait or spinnerbait where the lack of sensitivity and the stretch allows the fish to fully engulf the bait before I realize I have a bite and snatch my bait away from it.

I have never found one that wasn't horrible in every way.

OP mentioned spinning. I no longer use anything over 4lb test on spinning unless it's NanoFil, Gliss or Fireline. All of that is tied to a swivel, then either mono or flouro leader.
