If you lived on the boat
I know 3 guys who live on boats and don't own houses.
The math becomes so massively dependent on how much work you can do / are willing to do yourself. It can be extremely cheap to buy an aged trawler, refresh it, and live on it relative to buying and owning a house.
The same applies for big sportfishers. I know a guy who owns a 48 Hatteras and in the grand scheme of things spends nowhere near 10% of the price of a new one of those. He got it for cheap, did EVERYTHING himself except run the travel lift, and it's a damn nice boat now. Overhauled the engines, painted it, re-finished the staterooms and the salon, etc etc. If youre that kind of person, you can own a pretty big boat for not a ridiculous amount of money.
Something like Catch 23 is just a different animal all together though. It's crazy to contemplate how much wealthier MJ is than me. Sometimes I like to sit back and figure out how much money I'd have to start making per day, today, to be able to afford that boat in the next 3 years

Imagine how much he pays his 2 pilots and flight attendants for that massive jet plane plus fuel and maintenance

The crazy thing is - because MJ has such diverse business interests, he does spend most of this money, tax-free. It's factored into the operating costs of those businesses and he merely sees less profit into his account.
I mean, nearly $4b of wealth, why not live exactly as you choose?

Where does all that money come from?

3.5b in a money market at 4% is 140mil per year.
Plus it’s a write off.

are we arguing over michael jordan's yacht where its both too much but then its a shitty yacht? jesus.

There are so many soul-crushing ways to contemplate the difference in Micheal Jordan's wealth vs mine.
For me to make 140,000,000 TOTAL INCOME over the next 35 years, I would have to start bringing home $11k per day starting today.
MJ is can make 140mil in interest every year by sitting on his arse if he wanted to

We don't take people who think Catch 23 is a shitty boat seriously.

Shane Guidry and Harvey Gulf
Dude is a piece of work.
I’ll just leave it at that lol

MJ earned it, so many were just recipients of the lucky sperm club.

Whether he meant it or not, the publicity he created sure helps everyone involved. I would suggest the average person without significant sport fisher experience probably would not tell much difference between a 80’ Viking and 80’ Bayliss

True, but that average person isn't buying either boat.

I understand the appeal of a big sporty for the rich and famous but if I owned Harvey Gulf, I'd have my slew of minons outfit me a 180' crewboat for my own personal fish killer.
It's difficult to stand out in the big sportfisher crowd, but rolling up to the scales in a big blue and white crew boat would do it and actually be some excellent PR.

lol, yeah.....not many marina's can accommodate an 180' crewboat
But he could do it as he owns both old Trinity Yacht shipyards in New Orleans and Gulfport

I figure that’s what this ol boy was doing, had a bunch of money was a coon arse but decided to sport fish. I think this was green canyon.

Am I the only person that would have a big fast CC to fish if I had plenty of money?
Driving the boat is half the fun.
