Merino Baselayers: First Lite vs Meriwool

Meriwool on Amazon
Kiln on First Lite
I can get the Kiln for 20% off so the price difference is only a couple of bucks. Which would you go with?
Meriwool is 400 g 100% Merino. 19.5 Micron weave. I imagine the fit probably wouldn't be as comfortable as the first lite.
FL is 250 g 95% Merino/5% Spandex. 18.5 Micron weave
Both say they're 18.5 Micron fabric, I guess that's the weave.
Which would you roll with? I usually wear a 100% Merino Sweater that I got from Goodwill but I dried it a couple of times and it doesn't go below my belly button anymore. Sleeves are 3/4 now as well.
The Meriwool weight is more than the First Light Furnace which is about $60 more.

First Lite
Quality? Warmth? What's the reasoning? I have a few first lite items and they've been awesome but I've also rolled a few years with the meriwool bottoms no complaints.

The 5% Spandex.
Because of how it affects the fit?

I've got the hooded Kiln and it's my favorite piece of Camo that I own. Perfect combo of comfort, warmth and lightweight. I use it as a base layer or as the only layer when it's warmer.

I’ve had cheap merino wool base layers from Amazon for years. No complaints. I’m sure first lite is nicer fitting but I can be cheap. I did spend a good bit on my outer layer stuff though.

I’ve been wearing first lite all week in Montana and I’ve been warm. Been getting snowed on every day

Those are two very different pieces. The 400 g will be noticeably warmer. The First Lite will likely be more comfortable. I’ve been using meriwool 250 g for a few years but it’s absolutely falling apart now. I love merino wool but can’t stand paying that price for base layers and have them filled with holes within a season or two

I'm usually cheap as well but in this case with the discount I can get it's only a couple 9f dollars difference

The FL merino is worth the money.
I have every piece of merino they make. The kiln hoody is my favorite. Wear it almost every hunt.
The furnace is warm as hell. Hunted MO all last week in the lows 20s and the furnace kept me warm.

Just bought the kiln, wish I had gotten the furnace. Really good quality so far.

I have firstlite and kuiu for all my clothing and I could not be happier with either one.
I’ve used them for both sitting in a tree stand from early season 90deg down to 15deg to hiking hills/mountains in Maine and Montana.
I don’t k is much about meriwool but I can’t sing the praises of Kuiu/Firstlite enough.

Gotcha, if that’s the case I’d go first lite all day. I have a few friends who buy that and kuiu and none have ever had anything but good things to say about both.

I have a set of Terramar wool base layer that lasted 8 years before I got a hole in my rear. Sewed it up and bought another set so I have 2 now.
I take care of my stuff but that set was used a lot too.
They have silk lined versions which is what I have.
Bought mine at a great discount at campmor.com.

I bought some kuiu merino, I’ll see how it goes. Pants are full zip
