LWFC to vote on spec limit next week

Per CCA;
On October 6, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission will likely vote on changes to recreational speckled trout regulations. CCA Louisiana believes that a reduction in the daily bag limit to 15 fish per angler is appropriate, and feels strongly that the minimum size of 12 inches should remain intact. This should be part of a comprehensive plan to address issues within the ecosystem associated with speckled trout.

They should only change size or limit at a time. Not both. Would be way easier to see what is contributing to helping the fishery.

I would imagine most Charter Guides wouldn’t mind the limit going down to 15, just like Big Lake did.

their data is more fake then the climate change BS
just get it over with and limit everyone to one fish per week

then those who dont know how to fish wont be embarrassed when someone who can fish always out fishes them

i have never broken wlf rules but if they do this, then they can GFT because i will keep anything and everything i want to keep and forget their BS rules.
fish populations are smaller because of pogie boats and very little else, but its also hurricanes and hard freezes killing fish. nothing needs to be done to fix it but put an end to the pogie boats and then shut the hell up and get out of the way. but they have been masturbating at the idea of reducing limits to the point people no longer wish to, or can afford to go fishing just to keep 12 fish

They want to help the fishery they will kick the pogey boat in the arse, we all know that won't happen.

They'll change it down to a minimal limit meanwhile the pogey boats will still be raping the coast

Lol, the state has all but regulated out all of the commercial fishing for all fin fish in the state ( late 80s redfish mid 90s trout) . Meanwhile recreational fishing limits have pretty much been in unchanged for as far back as I can remember mid 80s.
But it’s the pogy boats that are doing all the damage.

I think it is a general distrust of all things government now, as everyone should be.
I don't know many that will complain about the limit reduction.

Yes it is. Just like it was the gill netters and purse seiners wiping out redfish in the 80s.
Move those cocksuckers (pogie boats) at
Least a mile offshore or better yet, ban them
completely. They’re parasites.

LDWF didn’t support the pogey bill because they don’t want additional work.

Representatives from Louisiana’s Department of Wildlife and Fisheries claimed throughout this year’s legislative session and over the last three years, as restrictions on the pogie industry have been debated, that a catch limit is unnecessary, the pogie industry is well-regulated, and it is causing no harm to coastal fisheries or habitat
“It doesn’t seem like you’re doing anything, really,” said Hewitt to the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries assistant secretary for fisheries, Patrick Banks, during the May 26 hearing. “I know you say you regulate because [menhaden] shows up in the statute 58 times, or something, but in terms of understanding how it affects the rest of the ecosystem or managing the amount of menhaden you take out of the Gulf, I don’t really see where you’re doing anything to manage that.”
Hewitt was pointing out the obvious. At the very least, the removal of a billion-plus pounds of pogies each year, nearly all of them from waters off Louisiana, means fewer of those fish in the water to serve their ecological function. Each time a pogie boat fishes in shallow water and disturbs the water bottom, there is damage being done to that habitat and the water quality in that area.

It ain’t just the pogie boats….
It’s chickens coming home to roost for a century of increasingly declining habitat and increased stress on the resource.

I'm fine with dropping it to 15. Maybe then I could catch a limit.

It's not like they are reducing it to 5. Bass limits are 10 per person and folks have no issue with it, 15 per person for trout does not make it not worth going. The 2 are fairly similar in size and yield in Louisiana.
Pogie boats are definitely a factor, but mentalities like yours of saying "frick it I'll take what I want" are asinine. Not the sportsman's attitude at all.

Who could have possibly fished for trout in LA this year and thought the limit needed to be lower? I thought everyone had already moved on to redfish being a problem now.

I sure the hell don't want them change it to 13.5". How many people will be buying new rulers?
