Anything can be dumb if you don't agree with it or don't understand it. Standing on top of a mountain you put work into is fricking amazing.

Sure, but if you die doing it. It's not a tragedy. A kid getting cancer is a tragedy. Someone dying while pursuing a dangerous hobby is not.

So a duck hunter falling out of a boat and drowning is not tragic? He knew the risk.

Point is everyone has different views. I can understand the appeal of standing on the highest point on Earth. I wouldn't do it but can understand.

I wouldn't pay $2500 to shoot a trophy buck but understand why others do it.

It's not a tragedy when people due doing dangerous shite. It's consequences.

I'd rather not pay 74k for my frozen corpse to be the next trail marker a la green boots.

Climbing Everest involves considerable risks. I personally don't see death on Everest as a tragedy. I guess it depends on how you define tragedy.

For once we agree. And unlike the duck hunting example it is not a tragedy when one dies on a dangerous mountain. That's part of the sport. Duck hunting is not inherently dangerous. Yes, shite can happen, but know duck hunter goes into the sport expecting a high mortality rate.

and it was tragic. That rarely happens and if safety protocols were followed, perhaps he would've lived. But duck hunting is not inherently dangerous. Everest is a killer. That's the attraction.

What about sky diving? Scuba diving? Where do you draw the line at what is inherently dangerous?

Case by case basis. No definite line. Basic scuba to eighty foot-tragic if you die. Advance night time cave diving in shark infested waters-not tragic.

Sky diving-not tragic unless force in military. If for "fun" it's not tragic.

I'm thinking anything that has something called "the death zone" is inherently dangerous.

I completely agree.

But there is a line to be drawn. Everyone will have it in a different spot.

I draw the line at the water surface.

Rather take my chance on a mountain. I hate SCBA's. Don't want to wear one underwater.
