realize the used market could easily lead to me buying some ragged out piece of equipment without much of a way to tell. So thats lead me down the road of a can am defender max hd7 and a kawasaki mule 4010. I need it to be a 4 seater, doesnt have to be crazy sporty, land is all rugged and will be mostly used for more work related stuff and driving around the property probably 15 mph or less but i also dont want it to be 25 mph max in the event i do drive it up the road anywhere. Do you guys have any suggestions or input on those 2 units? Maybe any other suggestions. I know both of those are in the 13-15k range new.

Mules have been around a long time and have a good reputation.

Your desires don’t match up.

Buy a certified used or new mule and the warranty.

Just from the research I've done and assuming MSRP is attainable at the dealers the 2 units I specified are in the 13-15k range new as 4 seater 4x4 units. They don't have heat and air or sound systems with light bars installed but they do exist so that's where that price range came from.

Haven't seen anything certified pre owned yet, didn't realize that was going to be available. From what I have been able to find in Dallas the used market isn't exactly flooded with options and if they are they're usually decked out with a ton of accessories and more expensive or at the very least just as high as the 2 models I mentioned are new.

I had a 4010 and loved it. No frills work machine. Better suited for work than my pro fxt.

But it's 25mph max, which was my biggest problem with it. You can fit a ton in the bed with the back seats folded up.

Kawasaki just released a 1000 FX mule. I would assume there is about to be a good bit of used FX around for guys wanting to upgrade. You can find a deal. I bought a used 2021 FX 3 seater last year from a guy who used it for yard work. Came with a roof and pop out windshield. Paid the guy 14K.

Look in FB marketplace with 300 miles of your location.

I previously owned 2 Rangers. First one was rock solid. Second one was a 1000 Camo pursuit EPS crew and POS. Will never own another one.

I thought all FXTs were 6 seaters, with the convertible bed/backseat.

I have a Pioneer 1000-5, 65+ on the road and can pull a ton (pulled my Tundra out of a hole). Cons, heat in the cab (you sitting on the engine) and the two back seats (that fold up for the bed) are only good for kids and small adults.

I have a HD7 Max. Wanted a Mule FXT but couldn’t find one and wasn’t paying new price for used. She’s been a good machine. More sporty than work but definitely capable of getting work done. Majority of my land is hills and it climbs with no problems. I still kind of wished I got the mule just because of the adjustable bed and the doors (I have young kids) however I believe the 4010 doesn’t come with doors. There is more room in the HD7 I feel tho. One thing I’ll say is get power steering in whichever you choose. May not seem like a big deal but mine doesn’t have it and sometimes turning on rough terrain is tough. My buddy has a mule with eps and it’s like driving on butter. Mine is a 22’ and was $16k (I’m in Georgia).

Other things to consider. HD7 has a longer wheelbase so turning in tight spots is harder. HD7 has foldable seats which can create more space in the cab. The under seat storage bin accessories is nice too if you choose to buy some. HD7 also has a front mounted terminal block which makes wiring up accessories easier. Also came in handy when I had to jump off my friends Ranger (would have been hell trying to park beside him in the location he was in).

I added eps because i didnt get it from fatory. Super atv kit was 500 bucks and easy to install. No issues for 7 years now on my arctic cat

I wouldnt let it deter me from a good deal. Easy add on

20 acres? Can’t you just drive your truck? Would not cost you anything. With the $15k savings you can doze a nice flat road and still have enough left to buy a four wheeler or two. Hell, it doesn’t take long to walk across 21 acres.

With all the mud riding and accessorizing that the kids are doing these days, I would never buy abused atv unless I personally knew the owner and its history. That said, I bought a pioneer -6 and I love it, but it blows your budget by a lot.

Ha yeah OP shouldn’t have posted that.

I don’t know about UTV’s but you could easily get an older 6 seat gas golf cart for $6k and they can go close to 30 maybe more if adjusted. Redneck it up for $1-2 k and have well under $10k in it. The parts are pretty cheap and easy to do yourself and much more available online.

Honda Pioneer 700-4 base MRSP is $14k. I have enjoyed mine for a couple of years now. Only con is the cramped back seats.
