Actually, now that I think about it, if it would keep you south Louisianians from shooting every deer they see in North Louisiana, I would be all for it.

To each their own, but this South Lousianian passed up a 6 pt along with a couple other small bucks with his bow, on public land, in North LA....don't put all of us in that same bucket.

Also I highly doubt that they will ever adjust the number of tags or adjust the season like they're talking about. Especially to cut the tags in half, WLF would lose too many license sales in the state. I like hunting for big ones. That's just me. Once I have meat from filling a doe tag or two, I'm looking for horns. I don't like the idea of antler restrictions statewide though because everyone should be able to police themselves. I don't want the state telling me what I can or can't shoot. I don't want the few opportunities that my wife or 7 year old may get slip by because the regs say it has to be 4 on one side or whatever the case may be. If it gets your blood pumping and you have a tag in your pocket for it, shoot! That's what most of us do this for anyway along with filling the freezer.

So pushing people to dmap where they have to pay to be able to manage their deer herds and are subject to data requirements. Sounds like more govt taxes to me.

On the tags currently, I know several folks who fill their tags yearly and they buy zero store meat outside of occasional ribeye.

Depending on what the AGFC does as far as CWD regs in Union County in Arkansas I may be hunting in LA next year. We have a lot of land just across the line in Union Parish so I'll be watching both agencies closely to see what they do.

Weather sucks, yes, but October to mid November is prime. Holding the season to later in January further south would be nice, but then you have most does bred being shot. It's a tough call.

The rifle season would also be shortened
I would love to see it changed to 10 days.

Bad analogy. If you shot the doe before being bred , it results in the same thing. 0 deer born from that doe.

Also where i hunt in south Louisiana, deer don't get bred until mid Jan, with 2nd rut around valentines day. It should absolutely be pushed back in that area. Especially when you still see spotted fawns in November.

Need exceptions for youth etc.

10 yr old shooting a 45-70 is a bad idea.

The rifle season doesnt bother me so much as the crazy arse doe weekends where everyone goes nutso on public land

This will be the push back, and there will be enough pressure to prevent the change. Right or wrong (wrong in my opinion), politics plays a major role in wildlife management in this state.

Like others have said, I find it mildly humorous that the goal would be to make Louisiana a deer hunting destination. No one is coming here to hunt public land that isn't already doing so. It's not exactly a secret that people kill big deer in places like Tensas and Thistlethwaite. MAYBE this has the effect of allowing more big deer to grow, but how many 140"+ deer is Louisiana going to produce in a year?

And if a private guy wants to have an outfitter-type setup and bring in out-of-staters, that's possible right now as well. Hell, you could cater to people looking for meat hunts like I've seen some outfits in other states doing.

Shortening the rifle season would probably have a bigger effect on the deer population than just reducing the limit. Most people aren't shooting 6 deer anyway. In fact, that change alone would probably have a greater impact than only reducing the number of tags.

It's alot easier to catch a baw hunting with a rifle out of season than it is to catch a baw shooting his 7th deer.

from what i've seen, most states with rack restrictions or primitive seasons remove the requirements for youth hunters.

Georgia has a great system.
Official Georgia Deer Season Dates
Twelve (12) per season, Statewide. No more than ten (10) may be antlerless and no more than two (2) may be antlered. One of the antlered deer must have at least 4 points, one inch or longer, on one side of the antlers OR a minimum of 15 inches outside antler spread

They just need to regulate hunters shoot like me. I shot over a doe with my bow at 12 yds this am. 12!!

That's not as hard to do as you think.

If all you care about is meat, that can be done with killing a doe

Doe days in certain areas really frick that up for some people. A guy working shift work might not be able to legally shoot a doe all year. Its fricking stupid to issue 4 doe tags, but only allow a select few days to actually shoot them.

Area 9 gets like 15 doe days, but if you join DMAP they'll give you 30 doe tags. Its stupid.

I would assume when and if they go to this new bag limit they would remove doe days. If they are promoting killing does over small bucks (which is the right thing to do) then having a limited number of doe days makes absolutely no sense.

LDWF seemingly incentivizing landowners to assist in justifying their (LDWF’s) existence.

Never understood this. Who cares if you shoot a doe in October before she’s bred or in January after she’s bred? Both instances turn out the same.

Sales would go up because baws will be buying licenses for wives and mothers and anyone else that doesn't hunt to get more tags.

Nah, I’ll choose to shoot what I want. Those antlers benefit the deer, not me. Once they dead do them no good.
