Heard a rumor that LDWLF wants to cut the number of deer tags to three. Allowing only allow one buck (antler restriction of at least four on one side) and two antlerless deer. The rifle season would also be shortened. This would be implemented statewide.
The thought behind all this is to make Louisiana a deer hunting destination??? Anybody else hear this? The thought of La. being a "destination" for deer hunting is laughable to me.

I've heard the same rumors. I really wish they would push the entire season back a month. October weather is miserable, and February weather is much more enjoyable.

State wide regulations make zero sense.

Regulations on certain wmas that have the genetics to grow 150” deer regularly do make sense. Mississippi has done this successfully in regions.

Limiting does to 2 on private land would destroy peoples ability to manage deer herds as well. 1 buck and people will just quit hunting all together

That would be something I would be down with.

Far as tags go, are there really scores of people out there in LA killing 3 bucks/6 deer annually?

If they do that, time to find a lease in Mississippi.

Why do I need to be restricted on antler size so some of y’all can have something to put on the wall? I really don’t care if you want big antlers. Sure reduce amount of deer killed if populations are becoming an issue. I don’t hunt to impress message board posters or social media people. Me putting back 2-3 deer a year and one of them perhaps being a 4 point, folks just gonna need to deal with it

I’m sure car insurance companies will be pleased.

If they do this, we will be applying for ag tags to manage them. Our local deer are already too numerous.

If you think cwd is spreading now, wait until you can’t take as many and see the wildlife that develops.

This all day long. Certain WMAs have some serious potential.

But, it isn't just about deer numbers it is also about hogs.

Enrolling private lands in DMAP would enable you to get enough tags to manage.

I don't think anything like that would go over well, but I would 100% back regulation similar to Arkansas with three points or better on one side.

Actually, now that I think about it, if it would keep you south Louisianians from shooting every deer they see in North Louisiana, I would be all for it.

Third hand. A friend sent an e-mail from a friend who said this came from his neighbor who is a Green Jean.

I told y'all up front it was/is a rumor.

I was curious because I'd heard the same thing from a podnuh who works on quail drive. Folks have been saying that for years, though.

I hope it's true. Too many frickers blaming small bucks on poor genetics when it's actually age. A young buck is using minerals to grow bones and muscle not antlers.
