Kayak spin: Buddy hooks Paddlepalooza winning flounder. Buddy photos winning flounder. Buddy proceeds to put winning flounder in cooler, but said flounder jumps and goes back into the water.

Does it count as a catch?

I told him he never even touched fish so it doesn't count as a landed fish. What say you?

If I caught the fish it would be a catch.

If I didnt catch the fish then it wouldnt be a catch.

But Im just a very very casual person that throws hooks in the water.

Its quite simple. In order for a fish to be released...it must be caught.

That fish was not released as the fisherman did not ever have the option to keep it or release it. Instead the fish got away. If the fisherman wanted to keep the fish to eat or mount, he couldn't have.

Not a catch.

Nope.

If it wasn’t your decision to release it ain’t yours.

I'll play devils advocate.

What if it was a shark and not a bass....

Last week fishing a small pond behind my house, my 4 year old caught a nice bass that was around 5 pounds. I was holding it with my right hand trying to get the hook out with my left that was in there pretty good, switched hands to use my right to get the hook out and it fell off and flopped in the water I've nevr felt worse losing a fish, my boy was pissed

If I eat it, it’s a catch.

I caught one a few years back that was probably my biggest bass ever 8 1/2 + lbs, I got a picture but slipped on the deck and dropped her over the side without getting measurements or weight May have been full of Budlite

My buddies gave me hell

And of course you can make out 5 lbs to 8 from a picture

I've seen the leader touched in the process of trying to boat a fish, then the fish gets off. This is for a tournament/rodeo where there is a tag and release category where you don't really have to tag the fish, just "honor system" for quantity "tagged". Is it counted?

Depends on why you're counting.

1.Beer bet between you and your buddy on who catches the most fish: not a catch.

2. Beer bet between yall's boat and another boat for the most fish: that's a catch.

I count this as a catch. I guess it's kind of like baseball. You can catch a fly ball and have it count as an out then drop it on the transfer. That's still a catch. You've got to secure it, two feet inbounds.
