When did y'all start taking your kids camping? Mine is still staunchly going to bed around 730p after a bath and is toddler. I have the feeling it wouldn't work yet.

Try someplace close and mentally prepare to bail and come home.

Not sure I've seen a kid too young but I never took anything less than a toddler. All loved the tent. Blew their mind. It might as well been a castle as far as they were concerned.

Around 3, but that was in a tent on our back deck, maybe once or twice a year. When he got into Scouts (age 5-6) ) we would go to various locations with primitive camping.

I spent Friday night in my new ( 20 years old from market place) pop up camper with my 3 and 7 year old boys. We had a blast. We camped at a lot my family has on a lake here. It probably helped the cat fish were biting good, it was cool enough for a fire, and the owls were fired up. I always over pack but adding kids to a camping trip you end up with a ton of stuff.

5 is around the age we started going far enough away where we were there for the night and no going home to mama. Both of my boys took to it and love it. Helps if you bring another dad and one of their buddies

Kids love to camp in the backyard if that’s possible. Do a fire, tent, etc. Start there, then go somewhere close and make sure the weather is great the first time or 3.

People out west do it with infants. I think they're nuts. Im going to try it around 5.

So put them down in the tent and enjoy the fire and the stars!

My middle one was less than a year old. Tent camping at a state park. He was fine. Now my youngest is 7 and he’s been going since he was 4. Kids love the tent and the s’mores. And if you’ve got a dog they’ll love taking the dog for a walk in the woods and putting him in their sleeping bag at night to cuddle with.

I have a picture of us bathing our daughter in an ice chest with water heated up on a coleman stove and she was about one year old while we were tent camping for squirrel season.

Potty trained and past the tantrum stage. Age varies. Start with "car camping" so you can bring more stuff. If you want them to fall in love with it, start off super easy so they don't have a bad first experience.

Evolve into more hike-in style camping with more age and maturity.

If you have a fire pit, seriously consider how far the ring needs to be from the fire. When we were pretty young my brother trip on the ring and landed in the fire. 2nd degree burns and night in ER can dampen the enthusiasm for future family trips

They probably have nicer less humid weather and fewer mosquitoes

I had mine camping at one year old. I think it all depends on dangers that are likely encountered. I would never camp near a body of water with non swimmers regardless of age.

Same. I have photos at Chicot State Park with my kid at around 8 months old. We just bought a large pack & play and he chilled out in that all day.

I took my kids tent camping for the first time when they were 5 and 2. If you don't think your child is ready for a tent, book a cabin.

My daughter was 5 or so and would sleep in a hammock in the woods. She was a busy toddler and it would have been difficult when she was younger. She's been sleeping outside pretty regularly since then. My son has been sleeping in a tent since 3 or so. I never really pressed to take them when they were younger, but we would have managed at almost any age. You just have to prepare yourself they are young and set appropriate expectations. My wife is not an outdoors person so taking the kids when they were young was just me aside from one time my wife came and a storm blew through about 2am. She hasn't asked to go back in 20 years lol

We had one of those little inflatable kiddie pools. This was at Oak Mountain here in the Birmingham area, and prior to when they revamped the campgrounds. We had reserved a tent spot, and when we got to the check in, the guy told me that they had a spot for a camper, not a full size RV, that had a parking pad and water, but no electrical hookup. If we wanted to park there and set up our tent in the grass, it would be easier than hauling stuff to a true tent spot. So we did that, inflated the pool, and filled it up. I've got pics of my oldest two having a blast in that little pool. One was 6 and the other almost 1. We ended up staying two nights, had a nice fire, let the older one swim, and went fishing. Kids will sleep just about anywhere, as long as the weather isn't too hot or cold, I wouldn't hesitate to take them.
