How well/long do the shaved pumpkins stay good for if left outdoors? Any preserving tricks?

Man, I really wish I could help you out. But I'm on call at work this week and simply don't have the time. And to be completely honest, after all the pumpkins I carved this weekend, I seriously don't want to carve any more.

They'll last a couple days before they start looking bad. I submerge them in a bleach water solution and just leave them there until Halloween. I've left pumpkins in bleach water for over a week before and they still looked good.

Whenever I set it all up for Halloween I'll try to get a good picture of the entire thing. Although I may have to do a video

PLEASE make a video for all us grasshoppers! You're like Mr. Miyagi with a Bonzi tree!!

In the past I would draw my design on the pumpkin with a sharpie. Then I did the paper stencil thing for a while. Then back to just drawing them on with a sharpie. But my wife actually suggested something to me this year that saved a lot of time. She has one of those cricut vinyl cutters. So I basically found pictures of stuff on the internet, edited them in her little program. So I used that just to get the basic outlines and then stuck the vinyl to the pumpkins. All of the little fine detail work was free hand.

I figure you ordered templates online, some of the patterns you have are available but you idea technique lends itself to even more possibilities.

Still takes time, patience and more than a little bit of skill. Great job

One of these days I'm going to draw up something completely from my own imagination.

I've been getting better each year. Maybe next year I'll have more time.

ETA: my end goal is to one day feel comfortable enough with my skills to do a big swamp scene on a pumpkin. Something sort of like this

I have no idea how or when I'll ever accomplish this. But when and if I do, I think I may have to retire after that.
