Could’ve used another year. j/k that’s a nice buck. Made you forget about the wet feet I bet

Oh yeah, I forgot everything when I saw those horns. Muscle memory at that point lol
He came off the private, and I can’t help but wonder how many of those folks let him walk and said the same thing. “He’ll be good next year”

Killed my best buck this year soaking wet sitting in the rain all day near you. He came out at 4pm. Hope you dont have to wait all day. There was plenty of movement before that though. Rain didnt seem to bother

I killed one during the rut at first light, one post rut at last light. Neither worth showing off. I let one walk right here 10 days ago, but with just a week left to hunt I'd take him today. I've heard no shots at all, which makes me think they have to move at some point today. I don't need a wall mounter, my wife gets annoyed when I boil skulls all day anyway.

Last hunt of the season for me.
If it’s brown, it’s down. Need some more meat for the freezer

Nice deer! Congrats.

Back at it in Tensas. Big nice dry box with lil' DH. She's rocking a new Model 70 featherlight 243. I can hear them sloshing around in the flooded bottom in front of me chasing does. Hope she can get her first one today.

Sitting in a Millennium Buck Hut watching over a cut bean field.

If it’s brown, it’s down. One of my subs asked for a deer to cook on New Year’s Day. Brought my daughter with me. Hoping she gets her first buck this evening.

Looking for a biggin. Packing up and heading to yancey today. I think the rut is winding down up here. Update: buck down

I would never bring a deer ice chest again if I was you. Congrats on a good one

Have one of my friend’s kids sitting with me. Hoping for a big doe or a good buck.
243 with 3006 for back up.
It’s been a crazy last day and a half. 4 does got shot yesterday on the farm. All four recovered. Two of them we would not have found if not for my Catahoula. One of them, a kids first deer ever. It was an awesome day and later night than planned. My buddy then calls me this morning. A car hit a buck on the road by the farm. Car totaled. Guy says it was a huge buck. I go to church then come back to look. Dog and I stomp around a bit and jump it. It’s still alive but has a broken front leg with the bone poking out and a busted hip. I finished it off with a shotgun. It was just a two year old seven point but the meat was mostly good and the coyotes didn’t get him. Proud of my pup and also realized I need to get my arse in shape. It’s too damn hot to be dragging deer out of the woods. Also, frick Hurricane Michael. It wrecked the woods around here. It’s tough looking for deer in vines and downed rotting trees.

Rule #1: never bring the cart in the woods on the way to go hunting.
Rule #2(new): never bring an ice chest for deer on the hunting trip

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

In the evening you gotta make sure you also have a dead flashlight and dull knife. If you have something like a dance recital or a dinner date with your wife it’s almost cheating. You’ll be shooting booners in self-defense.

Yeah, I killed a 7pt on Dec 11. He wasn’t that big, but I was happy to put a tag on him and he stocked a good friends freezer.
I’m happy with this buck for my second tag. I’ve never filled my third buck tag. I get pretty picky when I get down to the last one. If I kill a third buck, it’s gonna be real big. Hunting till Thursday in yancey, so we’ll see.
