I have both a HK SBE and a Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus. Hunted with the Benelli from 1992 until 2023. Bought the A400 when I gave my Benelli to my 21 y/o for duck season last year.

Never had anything go wrong with the Benelli, great gun, recoil and swing are great. It still looks like the day I got it out the box.

Bought the A400 because I thought I would treat myself to a new gun and if didn't like it, let my son use it. It shoots and swings great as well.
Both are excellent guns that will last a lifetime. The recoil is minimal, with the slight edge going to A400 for softer "push".
I wouldn't over think it if it's between those two. Go to the store, shoulder and swing them around, see which one you like best.

On a related note I did get the Extreme Plus max 7 camo pattern, which I thought was cool since I've never had a camo gun.

For me it is the first Beretta that I’ve ever held that I found clunky. And it seemed heavier than an A300.

I just didn’t care for it, which is very atypical for me since I’ve had a love affair with Berettas since the late 70’s.

I’m sure it’s a fine gun….for someone else.

What the difference in the way the benelli works verse the berettas?

Benellis are inertia driven, berettas are gas. Benellis use the shot itself to cycle gun while Berettas have a gas system to cycle the gun

Inertia guns are lighter and cleaner shooting, but have more felt recoil
Gas guns are heavier and dirtier, but less felt recoil

Benellis have much better ergonomics

I hunt waterfowl almost daily from sept-march.

Beretta is by far the gun I see from customers with the least amount of issues

Benelli is up there too, but the beretta out performs it.

When I carry a gun - I use my a400 20ga with today’s ammo 20ga is all you need to melt anything from giant honkers to teal.

Or with yesterday's ammo!

No doubt about it.

Although the Apex TSS blend is the closest thing I’ve shot to lead. It outperforms anything I’ve shot outside of lead or full TSS loads, but lead is illegal and only Donald Trump could afford to regularly shoot full TSS at waterfowl.

I know a guy who's never owned a 12 gauge and mushes ducks with regular ol plain 20ga steel shot.

He said just shoot them in the face and you dont need $5 shells

Idk how people get through a weekend of 3.5" 12ga shells. The recoil is horrible. Why???????

If I never shoot a 3.5 again I will have shot too many.

Don't overthink it. Both are outstanding. Ergonomics is most important. Shoulder it, swing it and get the one that fits YOU.

Benelli SBE/SBE2 has always been my go-to. Haven't shot a 3, but I'm sure they're as good as the other two.

2 times in my life I had a mistake with 3.5’s and thought I broke my shoulder

1 time was sighting in turkey loads and I leaned my shoulder back against a 4x4 post like an idiot and decided to pull the trigger. Thought I would be more stable

The second time was crawling geese and I was laying flat against a steep levy and made 1 shot when the geese took off.

Plenty of good guns out there, but I’d recommend a 3.5” 12 gauge whatever you choose.

Why? you only need this if you don't have a good spot are are sky busting

20 gauge is really all you need

I dont think many people understand how brutal 3.5" 12ga shells really are. The recoil is as bad as most elephant rifles yet people will burn through a box of them shooting at teal.

I went from Berreta to my SX4 and haven’t looked back. Had a slough of friends with the SX4 that got me looking at them. Don’t regret it.

Downshift hunts deer with a .375HH but doesn't like a 3.5" .12g.

I've never been bothered by shooting 3.5". I have an SBE2 and a Super Vinci and I honestly don't even notice the recoil.

While i dont disagree that a 20 is more than capable, shells for 12ga are infinitely easier to find and almost always cheaper. Im talking 3" steel in both. So unless someone physically cant handle a 12, theres no real reason to go 20 for ducks.

Man I love my Benelli M2. I know it isn’t as popular as the SBE III, but it’s one hell of a gun

I always see "the benelli click" brought up but nobody will sell me their damn piece of shite no shooting SBE for cheap

I have a SBE2 that went from an excellent gun to a no shooting piece of shite on day 1 of my first ever guided hunt in Oklahoma. I had to take the guides gun. Ended up bringing it to a gunsmith and he had it for months. The next year in Oklahoma it shot the first 4 days and stopped shooting on day 5. It’s left handed but I’d let it go cheap.
Replaced it with a SBE3. The 3 shoots… about a foot high

This is my new go to. Scooped a left handed one from Bowie after they were discontinued. Looking back, I should’ve bought 2 or 3. Added a pattern master choke and that guns deadly.

Maybe years ago.

I’m currently in BFE Canada and I can find non toxic 20ga shells just as easy as non toxic 12ga shells. Price wise is about what and what. I just bought a case of 20 for some customers and it was about $10 less than the 12ga case I bought last week.
