Have you heard of Sarcasm, it's a new trend. I use a 7mag, one size fits all, because I bought it when I was young enough to dream of hunting far away places and could only afford one rifle. My son uses a .243 because he's young and I'll need to get him something for many Christmases to come. But the 3 deer in our freezer this year were shot with Hoyts.

I want a 7mag for the same reasons. I want to go elk hunting and a rifle would be a step in that direction. But will probably get a 30-06. I have a 243 right now, shoots deer dead enough, but will be my sons when they are ready to hunt.

but if a modified trigger (which a lot of people like to have done) makes the gun a much greater risk, then it should be well advertised when you buy that gun, rather than what is likely something you would see on a standard list of warnings and fine print

If bought a Chevy and modified the brakes to where my truck doesn't stop does that make Chevy responsible because they didn't tell me not to when I bought the car/truck?

My ruger M-77 30.06 and .270 have never missed a deer, and rarely do I have to look for them. But I hate the laoding mechanisnm get a clip. Run about 500, but really you are looking at this wrong. Any of these guns rae probably fine. U need to spend your money on a good scope. I have Leupold VX VX-II 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope, I like the 50mm as it brings in more light for those twight light shots but it will cost you about 350. Really better with buyinh a cheaper gun and better scope in m opinion as most all will shot where u aim even the damn 700's. I have one that is less than inch off at 150 yards. It is aiming the damn thing that is the trick. Buying used bolt actions is also a good option, but get a new scope,

Matter of fact, yeah I did. On more than one occasion. I never said you could count ticks in the pic.

Damn, how far is that? What zoom lens? Even with my 200 zoom lens, if I can take a pic I can bust his arse with my 270 win.

I think that pic is actually a tad over 700, I saw him again the next year at 600 and got another pic, but its not as good as that one, you can just tell that there's a deer with horns in that pic. Light was too low.

Camera is an Olympus 510UZ with a 12x optical zoom. I'm not sure if that's the original image or if that's one I cropped to post on another forum. Didn't feel like digging any further on photobucket last night.

I normally take a spotting scope to the stand with me, so I'd had a good look at him, I just wanted to document that I'd seen him.

I proceeded to get down out of the stand and close to 230 yards and couldn't get a green light to shoot. Landowners grandson killed him a year after I took that pic. (...and two weeks after I took the other pic.)

Holy shite, 230 and no green light?! I'd have been pissed. He looks like a monster.

yup

Scored I think 167 at Simmons the year after that pic was taken. I think he was a bit wider there and taller too. He was killed as a 6 year old.

I couldn't reach anybody that could give me the go ahead. 2 minutes after I lost sight of him I got a call that said "take him if you have a clear shot". My reply "Ten minutes ago I had him standing dead still with my rifle rested in a sapling and me kneeling on the ground."
