Rod and Reels. I can catch fish without my tacklebox.

With the exception of 3 old school Ambassador reels given to me by my dad, I be pissed if any of my 4 tackle boxes was stolen, it took a long time to amass and organize them by type, size etc

For sure.

I usually break a rod every few years, and I've upgraded reels a few times so those are not that old or hard to replace.

No question. Rods.

I have a decent amount of money tied up in my conventional rods/reels and have built quiet a few of those rods.
My fly rods on the other hand, I have a conservative $25k in those and I build all but maybe 4 or 5. I have around 20 rods/reels

Good point. I can swing by Academy and pick up some stuff for about $20 to catch fish. Can't say the same for rods and reels.

It's happened to me, I only wish that upon a sworn enemy.

Happened to me already. As many have said, tackle box hurt the most but the rods n reels were more costly to replace. I had some old broke backs in my tackle box that my great grandpa had made way before I was born. Only had 3 of his in there and have a bunch still at home, but still.

Freshwater only guy weighing in. My spinning setups for trout are only around 325. I use a lot of rapala crankbaits and a few old flatfish. Had a small plano box fall out of my vest once. That alone was almost as much as my rod and reel.

I even have the baits I usually fish with on my rods...one for plastic, one for topwater, and a live bait set up. Not to mention the other 20 rods at the camp with baits

I keep my tackle box/bag organized as frick. Sometimes when I'm bored I'll take inventory and rearrange.

That said, I'd be more upset about the rods/reels. I was wade fishing at flatboat a couple weeks ago and was taking a gator trout off the line. Get it on the stringer, go to make another cast and realize my retarded (and slightly inebriated) self dropped my new curado and falcon coastal never to be found again.

That'll hurt the old wallet.

If we're turning this into a hoarding thread too, I'm guilty.

This is a tough one, but I tend to agree with OP.

It took me a LONG time to accrue such a large and all-encompassing collection of tackle, lures, and bait. It's wotnout a doubt worth much more than my go to rod and reel setup.

That being said, I also would have to go a few weeks without a rod and reel if it were stolen which would be s tremendous setback in the short run.
Tackle can be replaced in the course of a season that would allow you to fish with the times, and could be regained overtime to fit your seasonal needs...
So, I guess it's more of whether you'd want your cost to get back into the game to be short or long run in terms of expenses in restoring your pre-loss levels

It would put me back about $3,000 to replace my rods and reels, but I would definitely be more upset about the tackle. I have a lot of baits and soft plastics that would be hard to replace.

Came home from the hunting camp 3 years ago to find my shed door open. I had sold my boat a couple of months prior and had ALL of my fishing /boating equip in one corner. All gone. Every damn bait I ever owned. Seven Calcuttas/All Stars, Life jackets, landing net, paddle... I mean everything! But what really made me want to hunt a mo fo down was... The bastard took my sons beard and spurs from a turkey he had recently killed that were drying on a shelf.

that would piss me off pretty bad. sorry man.

When I go duck hunting and I have to leave some of my gear somewhere (back of truck, or leave in the woods for a while if we're coming back in a little bit) I always take/secure two things: my gun and my ducks. Those are the only two things that I'd really get upset about if someone took. If someone wants some old patched up waders, hell I wanted an excuse to buy a new pair anyway...

This is the shite that makes me go berserk. I can at least rationalize that if someone stole all of my fishing gear that they just wanted/needed the money they would get from pawning it. But WTF are you gonna do with the turkey fan and beard? That's just being a dick at that point for no reason. Hell, that makes me think it was personal.
