Do you go through metal detectors? I guess I understand if you do, but if it were me I'd carry inside and have a safe under my desk or something... I understand policy, but my personal safety (and you obviously feel the need to have it close) would trump policy in my head.
I hear you. And no, I do not. My concern is that every day in and every day out I would be exposing myself to a liberal tattle-tell seeing something and then saying something. You never know. You drop your phone, bend over and your shirt untucks just enough....all it takes is one person to see it. I don't feel unsafe at work, btw, so I just feel the risk-vs-reward is not in favor of keeping it in my office. It's in between where I think it's a good idea to have it. Never know when you're gonna have a flat or need to pull off in some parking lot for whatever reason. I just prefer to have it with me when traveling. It's not worth losing my job over to have it in my office, though.

The likelihood of your car being broken into at any given time is very low. So why is this a big worry?
quote:I made a false bottom in my center console with a magnetic lock. Took a couple weekends but you'd never know it's there. Alternatively, there are dozens of vehicle gun safes that either bolt down or tie to integral components of your vehicle. Couple hundred bucks saves alot of headaches
Since everyone seems against this, honest question, what would you do?

I thought it was common knowledge to carry your entire arsenal with you while boating, for that chance at a "boating accident".
But for real, i hate a thief too.

I guess not. It's never happened in our staff lot to my knowledge. I've been burglarized before, though, so I get it. They took a small safe with a gun my dad left me. I used the insurance payout from it to buy two more. But I understand what you're saying.

This sounds interesting.....I'll look into some auto concealment options. I lock it in my glove box now.

I bought the lock that goes in your trailer receiver. Seems safer when I need a shuttle

That's pretty cool. Is there a "with nuts" version?

Or a lockbox to keep it stored while you are not in the truck.
This is what I have.
If I am parking somewhere I am comfortable or even not long I do not use my box. Places like work, grocery store, gas station, etc. It stays in my console.
For other places I am not comfortable with leaving it behind; I have a handgun box that came with a cable lock. I just keep it cable locked to my rear seat frame and under/behind the rear seat. I don't think I paid but 60-70 bucks for it. Surely they could cut the cable or pry the box open, but I'd like to think most thieves are looking for a quick smash / grab and wouldn't be willing to fight the box in most cases.
In the end, it always gets put in the boat when I am hitting the water.
ETA:
And if they do break/cut cable they will be disappointed.......their prize would be a S&W shield I only paid $265 new for and has been thru the ringer. (why it's my "truck" gun)

A young guy I work with had his truck shot up and broken into while it was at the boat landing. Idk if he had anything important stolen.

Anyways I’m going to buy a new pistol today, give me some good suggestions!
Get something more secure than your center console to store it in unless you want to buy a third.
I'm not going to play holier than thou and say I never leave my gun in my vehicle, but I have a cablelock lockbox tied down in my trunk that I stash it in. Any idiot can walk by with a spark plug and smash and grab out of the passenger compartment.
If they really want what's in my trunk, they're gonna have to work for it.

I've seen that happen to a buddy.

That's exactly why I have the lock box tethered off inside my trunk. I get to work, I put the gun in the box. I roll with an empty holster all day.

Was out on the lake this weekend and my truck got broken into at the boat landing. Busted out my drivers side glass and stole my .357 magnum out of the console
Couple of years ago one of my buddies was fishing lake Guntersville and someone stole his tailgate off of his new Denali. He was bitching to the policeman who came out to write up the report and the cop told him he got off lucky. The day before two different trucks had their transmissions stolen while the owners were fishing.

I can't imagine leaving a pistol in a locked vehicle though. I get the why I just wouldn't do it personally. I would carry it with me or leave it at home.

I got it one piece at a time, and it didn’t cost me a dime.......

I have a lockbox bolted down inside the center console. I have a Tundra and mine is made by Toyota but I’m sure all makes have something similar. Nothing is 100% but it’s pretty solid and it’d take tools and time for a criminal to get in it.
As far as a new gun, I love my Canik 9mm. That’s what I keep in my truck.

Of course I’ve been to 3 outdoor stores and none have any decent handguns in stock
