Was out on the lake this weekend and my truck got broken into at the boat landing. Busted out my drivers side glass and stole my .357 magnum out of the console

fricking thug pieces of shite. Anyways I’m going to buy a new pistol today, give me some good suggestions!

Couple years ago there was a spree of gas thieves at local launches around me. They would drill a hole in tanks and drain it. Talk about would be a major pisser if that happened to you!

Trucks with people out fishing. Trucks are the first part of the "profile". They know what they're looking for and the market is pretty big right now.

Next time, buy a wagon.

I would bet Darwin would eventually put a stop to this activity LOL....even a battery drill arcs enough while running to ignite gas fumes....

I remember a rash of boat trailer thefts back in the early 1980's around West Point Lake in Georgia / Alabama. Imagine returning to the hill to find your truck but no trailer???? That would be equally pissing.

Boat ramp parking lots would be prime picking for a person bent that way...all sorts of shite that would be easy to fence left in the bed of trucks, in the cab, and even on the trailer...hell the wheels and tires off a nice tandem axle trailer would be EASY to get rid of....

I can't imagine leaving a pistol in a locked vehicle though. I get the why I just wouldn't do it personally. I would carry it with me or leave it at home. I leave my vehicle unlocked everywhere I go because there ain't nothing in it that is worth anything....hopefully a would be thief will check the locks before busting the window but I am sure some aren't bright enough to do so....I left my wallet on the dash of my truck onece years ago in South Carolina and it was gone when I came back and I have a car broken into at the airport in Atlanta once with the doors unlocked....nothing missing cause there wasn't anything of value other than the radio and it waas more trouble than it was worth but the stupid bastards knocked out a $350 piece of glass....

I work for the state and am 25 miles away from home. Can't have it on my person inside the building and certainly not driving that far twice a day unarmed. I just don't drive a truck. And keep no stickers/identifying markers on my car that would single it out as a target.

I float the river every week in my drift boat and leave the keys in the gas cap and a shuttle guy moves it and the trailer no issues but there is nothing to steal but the truck and trailer

Anyone use hidden cameras to catch thieves like this? Growing up my dad had an old junker farm truck that I always used to take the boat out. I could leave it parked with the windows rolled down and the keys in it and no one would mess with it.

Now I leave my boat pulled up on the bank with my rod and reels in the boat, my gps/fish finder in a tote in the boat, etc. I take it for granted that no one messes with things here like they did back home.

Or a lockbox to keep it stored while you are not in the truck.

Bolted down to something, of course. Otherwise, they'll just take the box.

Try Atlanta metro. Y'all smokin' crack if you wouldn't keep something on you. At this point, you don't need to be in an inner city to end up a statistic.

Always be prepared.

they are breaking into fords more than anything due to the keypad being on the door. they know that most ford owners leave their keys in the truck and simply use the keypad to lock it.

in your case, i guess they couldn't find the key and stole the gun instead.

do you drive a ford?

I went wade fishing a few years back and left my keys on my front tire, didn't want the fob to get wet.

Some arse lick either saw me or just checked, cleaned my truck out including wallet with driver's license etc etc.

people suck

Don't leave your gun in your vehicle.

Since everyone seems against this, honest question, what would you do? The likelihood of your car being broken into at any given time is very low. So why is this a big worry? If you work in a place where you can't have it on your person, why would this not be acceptable? Hell, the term "truck gun" exists for a reason.

a work/job parking lot can narrow down the intruder. anyone who's anyone can be at a boat landing/lake.

if i'm on the lake, i'm having a pistol on me before i left it in the truck. especially if it's one that i like. if it was a $50 hi-point, we'd be having a different story.

Right. We have cams, too. It's also far from my only gun, so I wouldn't be without.

Okay, maybe there's a disconnect here. I have no issues with this and compeltely agree. The ONLY time it's in my car is at work. Any other time, it's on my person.

Do you go through metal detectors? I guess I understand if you do, but if it were me I'd carry inside and have a safe under my desk or something... I understand policy, but my personal safety (and you obviously feel the need to have it close) would trump policy in my head. I work for an industrial contractor and have to go to plants from time to time, not often, but it happens. Can't have it in my truck if it happens.
