Bluejeans light up like a christmas tree.

I don’t know what they see but I have killed a pile of them in blue jeans even with a bow and a recurve bow sitting in a climber or a loc on and even on the ground.
I went to using brown and green pants because I wanted carpenter style with double fronts and ended up having them as my hunting pants not because I felt I was spooking deer.

I mean, movement is 95% of it but why be easier to see with the color blue? I like camo but why not at least go out in earth tones if going for solids?

quote:

Even though deer have less than half the number of cones in the eye as humans, deer can still distinguish among different colors. During low-light conditions, deer are likely more sensitive to the blue to blue-green portion of the spectrum (due to the high rod density). Studies indicate that deer are less sensitive to light of long wavelengths (orange and red) and rely upon their perception of only 2 colors – yellow and blue.

Deer are essentially red-green color blind (like some people). Deer can distinguish blue from red, but not green from red. Red, orange, or green all look the same to a deer. Because deer lack a UV filter in their eye, their sensitivity to short wavelength colors is enhanced in the UV spectrum.

When are these colors of light most abundant? When the sun is below the horizon at dawn and dusk. What a coincidence! When are deer most active? Deer can see “more” in these low light situations because of the color spectrum visible to them and because the light is passed through the receptor twice.

So if you want to be “invisible” to deer don’t wear blue! Wearing blue makes you stick out like a sore thumb. And don’t wash your clothes in laundry detergent with UV brighteners.

I have a bunch of Under Armour, Kuiu and Sitka and Sitka is my favorite. I'm also a sucker for good marketing.

Kuiu has a sale starting tomorrow, BTW

I've been pleased with Nomad for the price point. Their inventory seems to be lacking sometimes, I guess it's a smaller company than some of the big guys. They have coupon codes pretty regular - I don't think I've paid full price ever.

sitka guys - what pattern are you using in MS/AL area?

I have stuff from Kuiu and First Lite. Very pleased with everything from both. I usually try to catch them when they have stuff on sale.

Merino wool isn't supposed to be itchy because it has long fibers, and long fibers also resist pilling. If it pilled up that fast they may be using cheaper stuff with shorter fibers.

It can all pill given enough time and wear, but that seems really fast for a premium brand. Try Minus33.

Wool is not very durable. It's going to pill. Can always go synthetic instead if worried about durability.

It's claim to fame is not getting smelly. Synthetics wick faster and are more durable but get smelly faster.

That's why I said it can all pill, but a premium brand shouldn't look wore out after half a dozen uses. My stuff doesn't and it's a few years old.

My kuiu stuff doesn't either. We could also be talking to a person that leaves bad reviews because they couldn't read instructions correctly and thinks the brand is bad.

I think subalpine is more versatile.

They color blind other than blue (so they say).

It’s funny how much people spend on camo decked head to toe, then climb up in a tree where deer can’t see them anyway.

Wally World Rustlers and a dark shirt for me, baw. When it’s cold, I prefer to wear snow ski gear. Only problem with snow jackets, they tend to make too much noise for my liking.

How much are you planning to hunt? If only a few times a year like me then just go hit up academy or bass pro once the season ends and get something on sale. I recently got back into hunting and thought I needed fancy stuff but I just wear my dads old Remington jacket since he doesn’t hunt anymore. If you’re in a box stand you really won’t need anything besides something to keep you warm. I do have some non-typical by Drake pants that I throw on to keep my legs warm when it’s colder than normal. Wool is also clutch and a nice addition that I learned from this board

You might want to check out Huntworth Camo. They have 3 camo patters to choose from. The price point isn't bad and they are currently having their winter clearance sale. I recently made a purchase and was comfortable this weekend in 27 degree temps.

It's not really the camo, it's the clothing.

I have a mix of Kuiu and first lite and I will never buy anything else again.

Their base layers are great. I can move freely with them on, they breath well, their warm and they’re light.

I hunt in several different areas though so I have a need for some of it. If you’re just sitting in a box blind just wear what you want that’s warm.
