I much prefer charcoal to gas grills (tastewise) but I’m curious about pellet grills. Also, are the pellets expensive?

I never planned on getting a pellet grill, but I was gifted one this past birthday.

Is it easy to just throw shite on, close the lid, drink some beer and wait for the timer? Absolutely.
I’m yet to anything other than do ribs, brisket and chicken with it though. I use the traeger pecan pellets. Kind of a “good for any meat” taste.

Much prefer grilling on my $170 char griller from lowes.

You sound like a perfect candidate for a Masterbuilt gravity series grill.

I have a rec tec bullseye. Bought in about 3 months ago. It’s their smaller pellet grill. It cooks from 200-750. I have cooked a 14 lb brisket on it, ribs, chicken, pork butts, burgers. It tge best grill/smoker I have ever owned. I have 1K charcoal pit sitting next to it that hasn’t been used since I bought it.

I use bear mountain competition pellets. It pecan, hickory, post oak blend.

Buying a good grill and good pellets makes all the difference.

Came to post this. I love mine. You can put wood in the ash bin and the falling coals will light it for more smoke.

As do I. My 20+ year old model still puts out some serious Q, albeit with more charcoal than the "fancy" ceramics and the like. The wife hates it and wants me to buy something new, I'll have no part of it.

I'm from the school of " you don't throw something useful away just 'cause its old".

Pellets are a set and forget and there is some minor work involved with charcoal. Real question is how easy do you want the cooking to be?

I am a Weber Kettle Performer consumer myself, along with a high end gasser. I do have a spare kettle with the Spider Venom attachment for ease of long cooks.

Pellet grills produce food that is half as good as traditional grills. But, it's half the work.

You have to decide if it's worth the effort for you to make great food or shite food.

Either way works, just know what you're getting into.

The people saying using pellets is cheating are just jealous

I bought a Recteq Bullseye and I love the thing. I found it on sale and I believe I got it for around $400. The ability to set it and leave it is great.

I don't have a pellet grill but, charcoal pellets are an available option for cooking.

Not sure how they perform. Maybe someone who has experience using them can chime in.

Bought a Recteq pellet grill a couple years ago. Everything I cook on it is the best it’s ever been - whether it’s burgers, turkey breast, pork shoulder, brisket, even friggin’ hotdogs - it’s the best it’s ever tasted. I had gotten away from grilling for years, but now we grill constantly.

Just pulled some bone in skin on chicken breasts off of mine. Love it for meal prepping. I brine them then smoke, takes about 1.5 hours at 225. It's nice not to have to worry about my fire.

I grilled/smoked at least once a week for the last 3-4 years on a BGE and love it.

Got a recteq for Father’s Day, and it’s frickin awesome. Excellent flavor and ridiculously easy. Big grill surface too

I love my egg for an all around machine but the pellet smoker definitely has its place

I love my pellet grill. Set and forget. Food comes out pretty darn good. But not as good as traditional grill, especially for smoking.
