I'm currently in South Texas and we had to "relocate" over 100 snakes off of one ridge. When our surveyors entered the area the whole ridge lit up with a rattle.

I've seen some Timbers over 4.5 ft near Huntsville but never anything close to 6.

That's what the surveyors said, one of them dropped his cell phone and just left it. He recovered it a couple days later after the snake folks done their job.

Figured y'all "relocated" as in stack 'em like cord wood.

Hey Teague....you ever see any Easterns or Timbers around 6 ft up here? I've been lucky (or not out enough) that I haven't seen any around yet.

My brother is a surveyor in Huntsville. He spends a fair amount of time walking mtns. and says he sees several Timber Rattlers every year, but none that are 6 ft.

big ole Eastern Diamond-backed.

They can get really big. Biggest species of rattler. Heaviest venomous snake in the Americas. Definitely in FL, because the farthest area west in their range is southern Louisiana.

I can't read threads like this. It makes me want to never leave my flippin house again. In my mind 100's of rattlers 6' or bigger are just outside waiting for my arse to cross the threshold.

Where was that at? Just ballpark area.

I grew up south of the salt water barrier...all the water around us was brackish...so we didn't have that many snakes other than hognose, kings, and a occasional water moccasin.

I know zero about rattlesnakes...and typically I won't kill a snake unless it's in self defense or he surprises me and I act before I think.

I'm sure you meant "west" there instead of "east."

Though, one hasn't been documented in Louisiana in 40 years or so, if I recall.

Unfortunately not, we really had to relocate them.

My bad meant *West. I remember hearing the same that its been a while since a documented catch. I do know that they are still found in Ms. I would think there are still some around in LA.

We killed s decent sized rattle snake in Concordia parish during the late 90’s. Only rattle snake I have seen in person thankfully.

My cousin killed a huge one in the Nola area while on a grass cutting job. Easily 5’

Yeah, but they weren't Eastern Diamond-backed Rattlesnakes.
