I wear the Schnees Timberline. I like the additional ankle support without more weight

Danner Light. Made in USA, goretex, nice lightweight boot that doesn't feel like big sombitchces.

I'm on my second pair, first pair lasted something like 10 years. They were utterly shot but would've been just fine for light use around the county park until I took them out to west Texas and climbed a few mountains in pursuit of some big stuff with horns.

I got mine on sale a while back from Orvis. Danner rarely marks down but their retail partners do sometimes.

I wear Timberlands and they are not as comfortable as I expected, but are waterproof. So, get anothe4 brand.

Really like my Salomon Speedcross 5's. Lightweight and great grip. Really like the wider toe box. Doesn't cramp them up as much. Nothing worse than toenails aching after hikes.

HOKA Speedgoat's are nice as well if you want better cushion. Whatever you do, don't go with a zero drop anything. Get a nice 5-10mm drop.

I also have some North Face something or other. Really good looking and do well in water but pretty uncomfortable.

a pair of 1980s-90s Vasque Sundowners would be awesome.

I have a pair of Vasque that are doing ok. Not what they used to be.

Maybe look at stiff soles and Goodyear Welt. If you are going leather, full grain.

Trail runners with some rock protection are preferred for most hiking now.

What type of hiking are you planing?

This or a hiking shoe. Unless you will be carrying a heavy pack, boots are going to be heavy, hot, and uncomfortable. If you are just day hiking w/ water and a little food, etc. look at trail shoes like Salomon.

I met some guys finishing up the AT. They were on their 3rd pair of Altras each.

Planned ahead for blowing the shoes out and had new pairs mail dropped in advance.

Get something with sticky rubber. Search approach shoes. Very stable.

Only problem is they have to worry about their feet changing sizes during the trip.

Had a friend with two pair that went unused (not mailed in) ... he needed a wider a shoe.

This! Decided I was tired of cheap hiking boots and got a pair these a year ago and love them. Super comfortable.

Plenty of good suggestions already, so I’ll just add that I’d stay away from waterproof if you live in the southeast. It just makes them too hot. I have a pair of Salomons that I really like but I wish I’d gotten the non GTX version.

bought these in November and they’re, hands down, the best hiking boot I’ve ever bought. I can’t speak to their durability and longevity yet.

I’m on my third pair of these. I wear them everyday for work (forester)

If you decide on these keep two things in mind:
Order 1/2 size up
They will need to be broken in. The first couple weeks with a new pair usually beat up my ankles pretty good.
