You will get a lot of Tikka T3X for good reason but I will throw the Weatherby Vanguard Talon into the mix along with the Howa Carbon Elevate and the Sako S20.

308 or 30-06

Bolt action

Spend a good amount of that ($300+) on the glass

Get a sling.

It always boils down to this;

Excellent tolerances and QC
Factory threaded barrel
Light weight

For under $1500 you can pick two.

It's the right thing to do. I've shot about 20 of them and they all shot great. Lightweight, very reliable, guaranteed to be accurate. That's all that really matters.

.308 ammo is very affordable outside of the deer hunting loads.

You can get 147 grain ammo delivered to your door for under 0.90 cents per round.

I have an Sig Sauer bolt action .308 with the folding stock. It’s light and a pretty gun gun out to 500-600 yds. I also have a PSA Gen 3 AR-10 in a 308.

I honestly haven’t shot either except a handful of rounds.

I agree with others about ammo. Spend as much on ammo as you do the gun. A gun without ammo is useless.

Guess I’m a psycho then. I shot 50 rds just y-day.

If I’m shooting in a competition, I’m shooting 100-110 rounds in a morning shoot.

OP, look at Bergara rifles. My son’s best friend got a b14 for Christmas and brought it over. Beautiful rifle.
Tikka is great as well.

This is the thought process that keeps the tracking dog fb groups busy.

I have a range at my house and shoot way more than that. My son and I load our own and enjoy shooting together.

As far as what rifle, I enjoy lever actions . Browning BLR’s are fine rifles. Add a leupold vx3 to it and you are good to go.

I have one and have been around probably 5 others with various buddies and I do not know of one that has had issue (quality/accuracy)
For the money the mesa is hard to beat with carbon fiber stock adjustable trigger tech trigger and the ability to utilize rem 700 components.

Too many QC issues I've read about but every manufacturer has issues. I've seen quite a bit of people happy with theirs and just as many weren't. Glad you got a good one.
