If you download La Wallet on your phone, it will have a copy of your driver's license. You can link Wildlife and fisheries and store your La hunting licenses, certifications, and tags. You can report deer kills and validate your tags also.

I hate it for you. I've had a few encounters with them but haven't ever been fined.

This year, opening day of dove season, my son and I were hunting a small field at a WMA here in Alabama. Green jeans shows up to check our licenses and plugged guns. Some teenager we didn't know walked across the field to show him his license. When Green Jeans asked him to unload his gun, he ejected four shells. GJ asked him to put the shells back in because he needed to make sure he saw what he just saw. The gun didn't have a plug. The kid said he didn't know the gun wasn't plugged. GJ said "I have to write you a ticket" then started to talking to the kid. He asked him how old he was, kid replied 17. GJ then said, I can't write you a ticket, reached into his truck, pulled out a Bic pen, and put it into the kids gun to use as a plug. He lectured him a bit, but let him off with a written warning.

Snuck this pic of the encounter. It happened right in front of me.

I get the time constraints but it sounded like a cheaper option and a way to keep a federal misdemeanor off your record.

The pre trial diversion was crazy I figured. I work a bunch and didn’t want to be on the hook driving 90 minutes to do a bunch of community service. I can’t quite remember but I believe it was in person counseling. 30 minute i think session that I had to pay for… It was just too much stuff

I also talked with my work where I been a while and made sure it wouldn’t be an issue.

"I'm sorry for causing trouble, Sir"

While he's writing the ticket we had a long conversation about how hard his job is, the violent idiots he comes across, the liars, the cheats; talked about U of AR and LSU football and all kinds of BS.

Then he says "I'm not giving you a ticket today, here is a written warning." My cousins (who have gotten fined for ticky-tack BS) couldn't believe I lucked out. There are a lot of good game wardens out there and I learned my lesson. From that day down to this I game check them in the field using the Arkansas Wildlife app.

Alabamas app (outdoor alabama) lets you record the kill without any service and when you get in range it will upload it automatically (you dont have to tell app to do it). The app time stamps the entry so you wont get into that situation.

Been stopped on the water twice this year. 1. Once to check my license & boat registration. Didn't ask to see anything else (fire extinguisher, flares, live well, etc). Was very professional and was pretty cool for a young (appeared to be a rookie) GW.

When I say "cool & professional": I had taken off my cover garment after it warmed up, and was carrying a G19 OWB. When he asked for license and registration, he added, "And keep your hands away from that gun." I apologized for the open carry (even though it's legal), and made a point of letting him know I was going to have to reach under the console to get my boat registration out of a waterproof box - which I did very slowly.

2. Second stop was another young GW who was let me know that all the waterways I was in (Assumption/St. Martin Parishes) were no-wake zones (around structures) as of midnight the night before. I wasn't aware of it, told him I'd been slowing at camps that had boats tied up, but not at other structures. He said that's why his boss had sent him out - to let fishermen know w/o writing tickets.

Won't mention encounter #3, from 2006 or 2007, when a GW rode in my boat to write
citations for under-size and over-the-limit on bass.

Same type of thing happened to my old man at their camp in Monroe few years back, a complete bullshite thing where they went to store to get a can of snuff before cleaning and tagging ducks.

Long story short they all show up to federal court where one of the guys in the club was a fraternity brother and best friends with judge and a former federal prosecutor.

Judges fricking reams the warden and throws the case out. PWNED

I think there was another issue where the warden did not document that he confiscated the ducks, the piece of shite took them home and ate them, judge hammered him over that too, I think he got some unpaid time off and a strong reprimand.

Ran into something similar in destin.

During billy bowlegs I was heading back in through pass and they pull up beside me and get in my boat then start searching.

I open fishbox about 20 or so chicken mahi some trigger I think maybe a grouper and some vermilion. Guy starts measuring Every Single Fish in the box being very slow and looking at me weird. Im like oh he is that guys, but i know I'm good so just being happy shooting shite with him. He is just generally being a dick head, then starts laying all my mahi out on my deck and gets back on his boat.

So I'm like hey if your done I'm gonna put these back on ice. He said no leave them out in a real a-hole condensing way. He gets back on my boat and he now has a clip board...
I am a little panicked now like wtf did mahi go out of season this morning????

He starts writing I start pulling up regs on my phone trying to see if something changed that morning after we left. I didn't see anything wrong with what I have. I have like 1 bull and a bunch of chickens a few triggers and a grouper. Everything is legal that I could see.

I'm like can you tell me what I'm getting a ticket for, he says you need to look at your regulations on mahi mahi. I look at it and show him straight from their website that there was no size limit and a max 20 fish per person. He looks at me a little funny and takes my phone from me reading it. Then he goes back to his boat talks to the cpt and then comes back to my boat days sry man I didn't know that Florida east coast has different regs the Florida west coast (Atlantic vs gulf of Mexico).

This POS came in to give DUI/BUI and tickets during billy bow legs. frick that pos. And how the frick you gonna come into a new area trying to give tickets in someone else town and not even know the regs.

The fricking worst part ...

That guy recognized me the next day and immediately pulled over my boat gave my buddy a BUI. They had 2 helicopters and the sheriffs were renting jet skis to give tickets out. Just crazy.

Some guys get off on it, and I am not a fan of really any of the green jeans. Like none of them. But I have ran into good ones, they loosen up if they see you out most days on the water. They are pricks if they don't recognize you.

Oh, and the GW had gotten there while no one was at the camp and had gone through everyone's trucks that were unlocked.
this is a lot of the problem. There’s no oversight on them like there are other law enforcement. At least my view on it.

A generation ago, most wardens were hunters and outdoorsmen themselves. They were much more likely to handle your type situation with common sense.

It seems in the last decade or so (at least here in Florida), a lot of the game officials are just young kids trying to get into law enforcement and use the state wildlife position as an entry level position. So you have a good percentage of officers who don't hunt or fish so they have little perspective on matters. To them, an infraction is an infraction is an infraction - or, a dot on their monthly stat sheet.

Recent GW experience wasn’t bad at all.

I’ve been restoring a classic Boston Whaler and took it out on False River before it was too congested. While on the water, green Jeans came to do a safety check & and had a new warden in training with him.

By the time I seen him pull the hard maneuver and beam line towards me, already had h the engine turned off and broadsided to initial him to port side my vessel and was retrieving all my necessary PFDs, throws and paperwork in hand before he got to me.

He goes on to just make sure I had enough life vest for everyone aboard and handed the paperwork to the young cadet. We had a conversation about the whaler and he was admiring how he has never seen one like this on the lake. The young cadet confirmed the paperwork and handed it back to me and right after that, young cadet goes on to notice I had insufficient amount of numbers on then side of the vessel and started to harass me. The seasoned warden pushed off and told him “young man, that boat is older than I am, those are the correct numbers for that boat. Have a good day.”

Never was bothered by them since and have seen them on the water often.

I'm probably going to regret saying this and jynx myself, but we have hunted in Lowndes County/Butler County AL for 5 years and have never seen green jeans once.

The first year LA went to online license sales I had a green jeans come up to me in my kayak and ask for my license. I pulled out my phone and pulled up the pdf. He started questioning me about it, saying I needed a hard copy and he could write me a ticket for not having proof of license. It says on the damn ladwf website that the electronic copy is valid, which I pulled up and showed him. He made some smartass comment about wearing my PFD, which I had my inflatable on as I always do when I’m alone in my yak and went back to the helm and pulled away.

I’ve never been so mad in my entire life. It was very difficult to keep my mouth in check. This guy was a fricking jackass.

I killed a buck on Kistachie the day after TG this year and did the "Text to Tag" thing for the first time

I was so nervous driving up to the check-in station with the warden thinking he was going to give me a hard time since there was not tag on the buck, but luckily he was cool and everything went smoothly

They’re this way everywhere. Here in NC, they have a real sense of entitlement over the land that goes way beyond “protecting” the wildlife. They will do everything they can to run you off public land.

I can beat that. 10 of us (2 families small kids) on a Hurricane-style deck boat in the bay, heading back in. Pulls us over. "That looks like a lot of people". Yes, the capacity is 12 so there's no problem. We do the life jacket drill, throwable, fire extinguisher, flares (for fricking inshore boating with 100s of boats around). He can't find anything, even checks the expiration date on the flares. I'm nothing but polite, nobody else is saying anything.

He strokes his chin and finally decides that the 4 year old who was wearing his made-for-a-child PFD doesn't weigh the correct amount for the PFD he was wearing and gave me an $80 ticket. I was speechless.
