It's called nystagmus. It's the involuntary jerking of the eyes while in motion. When your eyes move back and forth following the stimulus they will twitch involuntarily.

Which is completely stupid because over 10% of the population has a natural nystagmus. Me being one of the 10%ers

Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. He was checking to see if you were DIU. Your eyes will naturally jerk whet looking to the side, when you are intoxicated.

Are you not a law man? That is breaking the law. If they do check the paperwork, the numbers will not match. And yes, I have been asked for the paperwork many times.

how would you react if you pulled someone over and found the tags were from another vehicle?

I actually fished with a guy who is retired coast guard today and it came up. What they do on the water isn't considered a search, it's considered an inspection.

They aren't allowed to go anywhere you have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Example would be a duffel bag with your personal effects. Would not include places like ice chests and bilge and storage hatches.

That's how it was explained to me at least.

You seem like a good dude but I can't believe you posted this here.

It would be like asking if you could just put the license plate from another vehicle onto yours and drive around with it.

Talked with green jeans on the water this afternoon. Had my stuff out to show them but I guess they could tell at a distance I was fine. Asked how the fish were biting and if I had caught any of size.

Never been stopped on the water. Passed by them more times than I can count. I guess I've never looked suspicious . Always give a kind wave and keep on going. Never thought twice. Had them check some people at the deer camp, but never me personally.

Only been checked once. He looked at everything: license, life jacket, registration, fire extinguisher, papers, throwable preserver, whistle and horn, and kill switch. Second time I got "checked" he just asked me if I had everything I was supposed to have. I had everything BUT my registration papers on me. I told him I had everything and he wished me good luck and told me to be careful.

lol. i don't blame you for trying that, but since some of the other posters said that they've had their numbers run by the GJ, i'd shy away from it.

in the few times i've been checked, i've never had a jerk of a GJ. always courteous, asked how we did, once asked to see the fish, looked at fishing licenses and lifejackets but didn't ask for boat papers. once had some barely legal bass and another time a 16.5" redfish in the ice chest and the GJ didn't even ask to measure.

most of them seem like nice guys, but i get the feeling that if you tried to hide something from them they would throw the book at you. so i wouldn't use the old registration stickers if i were you.

what is this "throwable" you speak of? ive never gotten asked for one.

Last time i got stopped was for duck season at the launch. had all our birds out on the front deck, and the guy proceeds to ask what we shot. All teal. then he asks which were blue and which were green wings. I had to ask if he was serious, he said he wasnt famliar with ducks.

I can almost guarentee that if my boat is on Toledo, I will get stopped by the same two TX green jeans. Nice guys, but they check everything. Paper work, stickers, licenses, jackets, catch, fire ext, horn... I mean everything. They did let me slide 2 years ago for not having my throw vest though.

Around Cenla though I know most of the green jeans that partol so usually they stop me just to BS.

ETA: almost always have an open beer on the deck when I get stopped, have never been asked about drinking.

I've been checked a ton. Sometimes they just check my fishing/hunting licenses and sometimes they chech everything (registration, life jackets, throw cushion, fire extinguisher, flares, noise maker, hunting/fishing license, fish if fishing and game if hunting).

I even had one pat me down for buckshot while on a refuge. I was bow hunting and shot a doe. While I was waiting for it to die (giving it 2 hours to make sure it bled out), I tried paddling down canals looking for ducks with my shotgun.
