I'm very surprised that happened. I have my doubts

Yep. I looked at the pictures and wondered what he thought was the point of posting them.

I always laugh when people post comparisons like that.

I don't think he realizes that the ford likely now has a bent frame.
Any time you take a solid hit to the hitch, bad things happen.
Baving said that, tundras are designed to crumple.
If you want to see caveman engineering, take your truck, whatever it may be, and run into a nissan titan.
Instead of sheet metal, their trucks have body panels made out of adamantium and mithril.

Run that Ford into the back of the Tundra and it will look the same. I know. I buried an F350 into the back of one and mine folded up like a Taco Wagon.
I like all of them and have had them all. Really just what I'm in the mood for when I am ready to buy. My brother in law has that aluminum body and he hauls heavy shite and not a hole in it.

I wonder what the repair costs are on the aluminum compared to the steel? I'm talking body work-wise
Posted on 6/8/16 at 9:40 pm to tigerinthebueche
No idea. None of them are cheap.
But I have always owned a truck and no matter how pretty it might be I work the shite out of it. It's not just for looks and needs a few dings and scratches. I let the bucket from my tractor down on the bed the other day and have two nice little divots on each side. Oh well.

Those Chevy commercials are enough to make me look at all other brands first. That douche host guy is the worst. The one where they "trick" people into thinking an Impala is better than a luxury German sedan worth $80,000 is awful.

I work my truck the same way, that's why I wonder how much repair costs are. The side of my GMC 3500 was pricy when I managed to rub that Volvo excavator I thought I could squeeze by. Live and learn, but it was an expensive lesson.

I would imagine if you hit a decent body shop, repair costs would be similar to standard steel.
I have found two good body shops after 20 some odd repairs from deer and idiots. Oddly enough, they are both in the last place I thought to get my car repaired. Plaquemine.
Found em by calling the mercedes and range rover dealerships after the hail storms a few years ago and asking who they were using to repair their vehicles.

I had a fat buddy of mine try and jump in the bed of my truck once. He did not make it. Ended up having a big dent that I just pushed out with a 2x4 and then I had 2x4 marks instead

I 'd know why gm is trying to make these comparisons. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that the next generation trucks will have aluminum bodies.

You can only lighten trucks up so much and then it becomes a problem towing things. Think about towing a 5000lb trailer with a Tacoma vs a 3500. You just get pushed around if it's too light.

The Ford commercial where they hauled rocks did not show the swept out bed after the test.
Just a few guys standing near the bed saying "Wow, I thought it would be worse."

This. I am a GM guy for some reason (family I suppose) but I can almost guarantee that, at some point, GM will switch to aluminum bodies. So why the shortsighted ads (this really isn't a question, we know GM is a shortsighted company)?

I think they make their hood out of aluminum already.
That said, it looks like aluminum is not the best material for the bed....at least in whatever grade is used in the Ford products.
