I was going to feed my kids today, but instead I bought a pair of wool drawers.

Yeah it's pretty rough but buyer's remorse went away when I was toasty in 15-20 degree weather with 20 mph winds. Normally I'd be bundled up like an eskimo but all I had on was the Solitude jacket/bibs and Mtn Ops Merino base. Could draw my bow back no problem. Layers are fine when rifle hunting but I hate them when using a bow.

Puffy jackets aren’t made for wind/water. You could wear it under a shell and it would work.

The thing you have to remember about first lite, KUIU, SG, etc is that it’s western hunting, meaning active hunting using layers. If you put one piece on and sit still you’ll likely get cold because it’s not designed for that.

Do they make a kit that works well in a box stand over corn?

They got $100 out of me for underwear and socks thanks to this sale. We'll see.

He's right. Puffy jackets like on FL are meant to be a very light, packable outer insulation layer for backpacking. They are not going to cut wind very well, nor are they very durable.

The Catalyst jacket would probably be your best bet.

I guess it depends on what you do but for backpack hunting, kuiu/first lite/stone glacier/etc are absolutely top notch gear. It's all ultra lightweight and easy on/easy off. I dont own any Sitka stuff but from what I see on my buddy's, that looks like grossly overpriced rain gear.

Once you start using the newest technical gear it's tough to go back.

Firstlite has several lines designed for still hunting and has a waterfowl line as well now.

Its true

if you have never bought high end hunting/outdoor gear, I'd advise against it, because it can become an expensive "hobby"

My favorite piece of hunting clothing ever. From archery CO elk, to first rifle elk in a foot of snow, to ducks/doves in South LA. My go-to for everything just throw on another underlayer when it gets real cold

Agreed. It's very warm for how light weight it is.

You can wear it by itself and be very comfortable from 40-60 degrees, or throw a merino or fleece base layer under it and be warm down to the teens.

for whitetail or waterfowl?

Whitetail lines

Waterfowl line

ETA: Their waterfowl stuff is brand new (released last week), so I can't speak to that, but for whitetail I have the Kiln hoodie (a lightweight merino base layer) and the Catalyst jacket. Both are great pieces.

Down puffys are amazingly warm and lightweight. I love that shite. Just hate how delicate they are.
