wow
live in Sallisaw, Oklahoma
purchase firearm at Gelco in Ft. Smith, Arkansas
they call a guy who drives from Oklahoma(only about 20 min drive), he takes delivery there. you then follow him to his house where he does a transfer to you.
$30

Call some pawn shops. When my regular FFL guy closed his store/shop in Ruston, I called around, and found a Pawn Shop in West Monroe that did them for either $20 or $25.

I have a guy who owns a local business in the Baton Rouge area that doesn't charge any kind of FFL transfer fee. He only charges for a background check. It's $30.00.

Bump to an old thread. Who are people in BTR using for Palmetto?

I think they stopped doing that.

I used LA Gun & Reloading on a Palmetto transfer a while back, would recommend.

IDK how they stay in business. Don't look like they're selling much.
They are good people. They sell A LOT of reloading supplies.
Yep! That’s why their shelves have been empty for 3 years.
But the inventory is starting to build up again finally.

that's outrageous. i hate seeing fricking gun sales on websites only for those sales to be wiped away from someone having to log it in a book, me filling out a form, and them having to make a phone call. $50 is crook level. $50 for 15 minutes worth of time.

reasonable

still too high
local gun store - Aero M4E1 lower for $129.99
Aero's website with a weekly sale - M4E1 lower for $89
local gun store transfer fee - $30 w/ card - $20 cash
PSA blemish lowers - $29.99
local gun store transfer fee - $30 w/ card - $20 cash
might as well buy the Anderson lower in the store for $60

There are several databases look up online. Just enter your zip code and get a listing of local FFls and pricing. I use Gunbroker's a lot.

My local guy in picayune has his website linked to several online retailers if you order through the site there is no transfer fee and it drop ships to his store. Only a $20 fee if you order direct from anywhere else and have it shipped. He barely has any guns in stock but always has stacks of transfer paperwork.

Best I can find is Bayou Pawn, which is $25, and $15 each additional gun.
Someone posted online (on a firearms forum) that there are lines for 3 serial numbers on a 4473, and their favorite FFL charged for the form (not the individual gun).
It would be nice to learn who else does this, because when you buy things like lowers, that adds up in a hurry. The problem is, stores don't make much/any money doing this, so even if someone currently does it, all it would take is someone buying 3 lowers, and they'd likely change their approach.
Cases in point- as I mentioned, Bayou Pawn was an affiliate with PSA, meaning you could go up to the store, show them the PSA ad, and they'd order it for you without charging transfer. I did that once to pick up some lowers, after they told me. Next time I asked, they weren't doing it anymore.
Also, someone mentioned Deep South Shooters, who is now gone because they couldn't make enough money. Their transfers went up to $20. Of course, they really didn't have much of anything in the shop to look at, and unlike Reynerson's back in the day, they weren't doing the heavy amount of gunsmithing that could make up the difference.
The problem most of us find is this- we WANT to buy at a store if possible, but I've yet to see a stripped lower (a favorite item) under $60 or $70 at the least. You go online and see Anderson or PSA for sale at $30, and there's no contest.

New store opening in Zachary on Scenic highway called Roaming shot. They are going to be building precision PRC rifles and selling shotguns...no tactical stuff. They are also opening a 1000 yard range North of Zachary. They are working on trying to get it ready by the end of October. I talked to one of the owners at Zachary Planning and Zoning last night. Seems like a nice guy. They are waiting on their FFL to be approved along with an SOT license. Didn't think to ask what they will charge for transfers. Super excited about the range.
Also Southern Outfitters bought 2 lots over buy the Walmart and planning on building their own place in the next 3 years.
Sucks Deep South went out of Business. I bought a Beretta 92x Centurion RDO the last day they were open for $607 OTD.

Sucks Deep South went out of Business.
I knew them from when they were at Baker Range, and I was a member there at the time. After they left, at one point the owner's wife called and told me my membership was past due, they had no record of me paying it.
I dug out a credit card receipt showing I did, and she apologized, and said they were trying to sift through a couple years worth of mess as far as records.
Left me a bit uneasy on the whole group. It was a family plan, so several hundred dollars... I didn't like the thought that they'd try to shake me down for that. On the other hand, if things weren't done professionally, I could understand the issue of cleaning things up.
I liked the guys, but not everyone is an accountant at heart.
As for local shops... it's a bit tough to run one, in my opinion.
Me personally, I like the used section, trying to find an old surplus or classic model. I'm not much on buying new guns. I suspect if you have your Glock, there's not much reason to go buy another; it's not like a cellphone you need to upgrade every couple years. The only 'new' thing I am interested in, is the AR- and that's more for the "Lego for men" aspect. It's fun to put one together, but I really don't NEED anymore.

My guy on the other side on Maynorville doesn't charge for a transfer OR a background check. He does, however, require a $37 payment for breathing the air in his store.

They are really good dudes. I gave them a good bit of business and they treated me right.

It's hard to make enough to live on running a small shop. Unless you spend a ton of money with a distributor you're not going to get the hot new guns. Many of the manufactures are putting pressure on the distributors to make their clients buy their slow movers in order to buy the stuff everyone wants.
GB has gone nuts with all the fees they tack on to the buyer. Unless you you get a really good deal its not worth buying off GB any longer. I won a Springfield Echelon yesterday for $530 which on the surface sounds great. By the time I pay all the fees, taxes, shipping and transfer cost I am up to almost $700.
