Kinda long story so the TLDR is 3am.

I had just moved to Houston and my uncle who lived in Baytown invited me to go fishing with him and a buddy.

The Friday night before the trip my neighbors decided to have a street party. We were the first 6 houses to be built in this new neighborhood and all of us had recently moved in so it was a chance to get to know everyone.

It was a lot of fun and I stayed up way too late drinking and hanging out. I think I got to bed at 1:30.

So I slept an hour and a half and then dragged my arse out of bed. I was still a little drunk, but it was rapidly becoming a hangover.

But I couldn't let my uncle down so I got in the truck and left Katy for the coast. It was a long arse drive but I made it there before sunup and we launched the boat at first light. My uncle has recently installed some extra fuel tanks in his boat and he filled them up all the way, causing the plastic to bulge and let gas fumes out. As we headed south the wind was at our back, so it was like no wind I was already hungover and "verpy" and now I'm breathing in gas fumes.

Then my uncle's buddy lights up a cheap cigar. I have never been sea sick but I just knew that was going to be the day. I fought nausea all the way out to over a mile from shore. Just when I thought I was going to feed the fishes, we turned the boat east bound and the breeze cleared the fumes. I chugged two Gatoraids and felt immediately better.

We were trawling for kingfish and the limit is two per person. Both of the older men just wanted to drink beer and shoot the shite so I got to catch all the fish and it turned out to be a great trip.

They don't let you in there now till 4AM so you got that but that doesn't prohibit a line from forming. I think I heard the launch at Wham starts backing up on Thursday before teal opener which is on a Saturday.

I’ve gotten off a night shift more times than I can count and gone hunting or fishing. I’ve also gotten up around 1am, made a 4 hour drive to Bussey brake, and fished all day.
Last week, I worked Saturday night, slept pretty much all day Sunday, left the house around 7pm, stopped at academy in Lafayette, and then headed to O H Ivie. Got to Ivie around 6am and fished until 9pm. The real kicker to that is, when I docked after fishing, I dropped the power pole, went get the truck, backed down the launch, and my boat was floating off. So after driving all night, and fishing all day, I had to finish it off with a night time swim to retrieve my boat

I’d stay at a buddy’s house in Rayne and we’d wake up at 245 go duck hunting in the Lacassine NWR. Between the drive, boat ride, walk in the marsh, and setting up, we’d only have 15 minutes or so to wait until shooting time.
Tough hunting but there was a great chance you’d stack the green.

Many years ago hunting at 1:30am. 3 of us decided to do a 2000 rag spread for a goose hunt. Got to the field at 3:45.

Had a decent hunt but not worth that kind of effort. Picking up 2000 rags after the hunt sucks beyond belief.

If you haven't slept all night in your boat on Baptist Collete/Pearl River WMA listening to the non stop screams of gator tails, swatting gnats/mosquitos, and getting "flashed" by ever boat that comes throught--did you really duck hunt in SE Louisiana from 2010-current?

I am at spot as soon as i can enter (4am). we generally leave camp by 3 every morning--if we are hunting daylight.

have grown to hunt from 10-2 now, meaning i get up at 530 and trout fish until i go get in blind.

Lake Boeuf Coot shoot got out there the afternoon before slept in a gatortail boat with 13 other dudes also sleeping in boats. Stood in blind and drank the night before and also cooked I think. (it has been a while) wake up the next morning and start blasting. I don't think I could do it today.

I left my house (Morgan City) to fish the Texas oilman's bass tournament on Sam Rayburn at midnight bass boat in tow. I don't think I could do that either anymore.

Second Submittal:

I live in NW Houston. I regularly will get my kayak loaded the night before and wake up at 4:30 on a weekend, be out the door by 4:45. I can be at the San Marcos River in a little over 2 hours.

There are several put in points that I like and I will do a 4-6 mile float and fish. I'm there so early I usually have the river all to myself. It's great.

When I get to my chosen take out point I'll cable lock my kayak to a tree and take an Uber back to my truck. Hop in the truck, run down and get my boat, and hit the road for home by about 1:30. Home by 4:00 or so.

Fishing that river alone has become one of my favorite trips. No waiting on some buddy who's always "running late", no timeline other than my own.

All nighters when we head to the canyon. Leave at 5p. Run till dark. Idle speed till daylight to conserve diesel. Start fishing at daylight.

Back before the time limit laws we would leave the shop at 9:00 pm to be near the front of the line and launch at Mathews Brake at 12:00 am and sleep in the boat until shooting light.
