I think the disagreement is on the word shed. All dogs have to shed to some degree. My Terrier doesn't shed, but her hair is easily pulled out when it's ready. Hell, we shed.

Are there any medium sized poodle mixes worth looking at? Not for ducks-just a great pet. I am bout to lose a 14 year old.
The goldendoodle I have pictured is a ‘medium’.
He weighs 55 pounds and is two-years-old.

I’m one of the few lucky ones that didn’t have to pony out big time money for a puppy out of a good kennel.
Mom was a chessie HRC and Dad was a lab HRC.... accidental litter. Mom was killed by a car soon after litter was born, ended up paying the guy $100 for the dog.
After sending him to JD Babb at Buh-Yah Retrievers I ended up with what I think is a top notch dog. But I know I got extremely lucky.

That is a cool looking dog. I have always wondered what kind of dogs my Chocolate lab and chessie would make. They'd probably be awesome dogs just wouldn't be worth much.

For all the post about reds. Reds are the original yellows. The first registered “yellow” was red. Without looking it up it was in like 1866 GB and he was RED which is classified as yellow. So red is not a designer color. Most British labs have a red tint but are classified as Yellow.
For the OP don’t buy out of the news paper and don’t buy based off color. Find a trainer and ask for advice from a professional.
Or be special and buy a Chessie

Lol I have the itch to shop for another dog now.

Man, he looks so much like my dog.
I have a 7yr old british/english yellow lab.
He's by far the best dog I've ever had. Extremely smart and he was very easy to train (he's was trained as a duck dog). He's as laid back as any dog I've ever seen. Has never tried to chew up anything.
We also have a 2yr old labradoodle. She has one of the best personalities I've every experienced in a dog. She's scary smart though I haven't spent as much time training her as I should have. She is my wife's dog to say the least.
She however shed's like crazy, but it's likely because she's a F1 (father poodle, mother lab).

If you mean the news paper quote. I stated that poorly. With labs being the most popular breed in the US know who you are buying from and that they are reputable.
I paid for that mistake years ago. Bought an English from what I thought was a reputable breeder. sent him to a trainer for 6 months at 3 years he had his first seizure. Quit hunting him when I almost lost him on a deep water retrieve.
6 months of training expenses gone.

Another good tactic is to speak with a field trial friend. Tell him you are looking. They are a close knit community and will know of a well bred dog that has drive and is tractable, but does not have the flash/speed their game requires. Their washouts(good ones) can be terrific gun dogs. I bought a two year old gyp who is a pleasure to own. She is on her third season with me and I could not be happier.

Does your doodle fetch ducks?
Sent mine to the trainer, wife refused to let me get it retriever trained. Not sure he has the drive to be honest.
